first of all, i am a Christian. and i LOOVE harry potter books
second of all....we live in this world. this world is filled with nonsense, with good AND bad things. just as adam and eve ate the stupid apple, we will always be, as human beings, curious and intrigued by what is "bad". *however*, knowing that, God gave us Free Will to learn and discover and decipher for ourselves what is "Good" and what is "Bad" for us.
we can decipher for Ourselves if HP is bad. therefore, if YOU think HP is bad...don't read it! but don't tell others they are evil, don't judge others for reading HP, don't tell others what to do... it also says that judging and condemning others is "not right". i believe if u are strong in ur faith, u can withstand anything negative or bad that comes into your path. and u will be able to See what path u want to take! so if reading HP doesn't detract from your love for God, and worshiping and Praising Jesus, who's to judge you? we are all imperfect, we all do bad things, we all think bad thoughts, occasionally lie, cheat or steal. that is human nature. the most important thing is to teach our children what IS love, what IS good, what IS bad, and teaching them to choose good decisions from that knowledge. keeping them away from that is bad for them, they won't know how to live in this world we live in, if they are shunned away from what is In the world. they need to live in the world and be a light, a positive, good thing in the world today. a child can do that, whether or not they read Harry potter. there are much worse things to worry about.. like child abuse, neglect, etc etc.
i'm sure they grew up watching Casper the Friendly Ghost, or other shows and books and stories about the Boogey man..is that Horrendous and evil?? better condemn your ancestors for telling u those stories before u condemn those who read HP for enjoyment.

Hello, I'm sixteen and come from a Christian family. My three brother and I have read all the Harry Potter books and all love them, passionately. My parents do not oppose us reading them at all, they believe they are well written and present good morals.
When, I first began reading them, though, the only part my mum was really unhappy with was 'Divination' - she told me that divining went against 'trusting God' and not trying to play God or something along those lines - you know what I mean, I'm sure.
However, overall whilst witchcraft is against Christianity, you have to understand that so long as it stays as a fantastical thing (and I know it can become real but in a very different way to how Hogwartians use it) it's a wonderful thing to read. It's makes stories, well, magical (bleagh cliche-ness). And, when you think about it, underneath the magic - which really is only a small concept of it - the story is about a boy, with the help of the wise and his loyal friends, defeating the epitome of evil. There are even a few christian underlyings in it.
So basically, I don't know what the fuss is about. Hooray for J K Rowling - who, I don't think thought she'd make any more of a comotion than any other fantasy author when she was writing it.
And, come, please, let's stop the book burnings - think of the trees! :D

I've read all 6 books many times, and plan on reading the 7th. I'm very involved in my Church and my beliefs as a Christian. I really don't see anything wrong with Harry Potter. There is no swearing or sexual innuendo in these books. I'd much rather have my kids reading this than watching Cartoon Network. They are well written have good plot and character development and are very imaginative and well thought out.
Of course I would always recommend reading any book along with your child and talk about what is in that book. In this way you have many opportunities to teach your kids and engage them in meaningful discussions

I am a Christian, and I don't see anything wrong with Harry Potter, cause those books are awesome!! I've read every single one of them atleast two times each. I don't see how it's against Christianity. I mean, they celebrate Christmas and Easter. It's not like they worship the devil or something. I don't understand anti-Harry Potter people, and it is not that I don't want to, I just don't see a base for argument.

I'm a Christian and I don't think that it's wrong to read Harry Potter.....if you can read the books in the right light.....I've read the books (and own them) and seen the movies and as a matter of fact my wall is covered in posters of the cast......I think doing sorcery or spells or anything of that nature is totally wrong and is spoken against often in the Bible, but I think that if you read them with the understanding that it's a fictional book and don't plan on joining some kind of witch cult, then I see nothing wrong....

It may be wrong to some Christians. There is a cool book out there that compares the Potter books to biblical ideas and themes. Turns out, Harry's writer knew a thing or two about the Bible. There's good stuff in those books.

Well sad to say that Harry Potter is FICTION people! My children & I love the books and the movies, and I am also a Christian. My sister in law (a Christian also ) forbids her children to even speak of the Harry Potter series because she thinks it is "evil." Evil my shoe!! There are books and movies that are far worse than Harry Potter in our world!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with healthy imaginations.

Um, let me see. Christians, at least some of them, know the Bible says witchcraft is evil.
And, all anyone has to do is glance through one of the Harry Potter books, and you see all kinds of witchcraft. The details don't matter, it's witchcraft. The Bible does not say under certain cirumstances or on certain pages of Harry Potter books witchcraft is wrong, it says witchcraft is wrong.
Also, there are zillions of reviews of the books, all describing witchcraft in them.
Um, still with me?
But, in your arrogance, you decree that no one can have an opinion unless they have read each and every book from cover to cover?
Get a life! Who cares what you support?
But, since you bring this up in that manner, no Christian can support you asking questions about Christianity when you are not one, and clearly know nothing about it.

I have nothing against Harry Potter, but my mom is sort of kind of against it because it teaches sorcery and she heard somewhere that the spells were real. So she is afraid that her children will start practicing sorcery. She has read the books and seen the movies. She lets us read it. So shes not all opposed, she just has an opinion.

I have read all the books and the ONLY reason that I can think of that Christians would be against it is that there is witchcraft in it. I don't care, I like it anyway. It is a good example of good versus evil.........
