as the ones that answered before me noted, there are many definitions for art in use and everything that has more than one correct definition cannot truly be defined. you can not find a statement that conveys the same clarity as the textbook definition for 'pencil' for example. as for the art you 'feel', i must contradict, pointing out that what is the embodiment of artistic perfection for one man can very well be rubbish for another. when this happends, the status of that piece as a 'work of art' does not change. otherwise, either everything or nothing could be named art. therefore 'feelings' are not an appropriate measure for the worth of a creation. regarding ways of assesing the presence of artistic values in objects, they are so diverse and change so drasticly from generation to generation or from culture to culture that it is very difficult, if not again imposible, to find a recepy. to define a set of rules regarding which creation represents artistic expression and which does not you need a starting point: definition for art. and as that can not be obtained, just as well you can not create standardisation for what is valuable and what is not. this is actualy one of the most beautiful things about art. it's versatility, it's constantly shifting form, it's impredicitibility but also it's incredible ability to portrait in an imense number of ways the society that inspired it.

Art is asking questions
Art is an expression of the soul.
When something is created, it is not art.
It only becomes art when it is appreciated by someone other than the artist.
Art is an elusion of our limited mind
art is expression for human life
I suppose if u are not rigid, anything can be art.
Art is beauty and beauty is art.
Art is one's emotions to life, and the things surrounding that person. I feel really that there can be more than one meaning for art. It's just the communication to the viewer and the world.
art is yourself.
Art is something which only talent and creativity is able to create
I THINK¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ IS ENOUGH...........OR NOT

That's an impossibility. I don't think there's a rush out there to define it in any strict sense of the word......art is best left undefined. Of course some points made above providing a gross definition are very helpful....but we musn't be imprisoned by any of it. To me it is expression basically.....a method of freezing time......

Something whos primary purpose is of non-practical value created by a person or a group for decorative or expressive purposes.
It can be a tangible item (a thing) or the act of expression of a person through facial, body or vocal action, with or without an instrument, tool or costume.

Art is emotion. It can be the emotions it brings out in the viewer and is certainly based upon emotions from within the artist. Best wishes

Art is what you feel! What you bring to life, and something you work for, and are proud of. Art is you, art is your friend, art is everyone. You draw whatever you are in the mood to draw. I draw anime, nature, science fiction and fantasy art, native american art, and fan art. That is my mood. I draw anime because I love anime eyes and characters, like Inuyasha. I draw nature because I live on a farm and I am Cherokee, I appreciate every aspect of nature. I draw science fiction and fantasy art because I have a huge imagination. I draw fan art because I like to bring my favorite characters to life on paper. Art is me. My feelings, and my hobbies.

something viewed or captured or created that can affect people on an emotional/thinking level. very subjective but I always say it can't be art if no one objects to it.

To quote Louis Armstrong - "If you have to ask, you'll never know."
Of course, he was talking about the definition of Jazz, but I think it applies to art as well.
