First download these programs:
Spywareblaster
SpyBot Search and Destroy
Adaware
and install them. If it is too difficult to download and install. Restart the computer and start tapping F8 on startup and choose Safe mode with networking (log in as ADMIN) and download the programs and install them (they are free) -you can donate if you want to! Now update the programs run them one by one. Most of the time the stuff that is bogging down your computer is adaware and spyware and overtime especially with highspeed internet connections these programs will infest your computer like locusts and start conflicting with each other. Each program should get rid of a signifigant amount of the crap. Spyware blaster is a prevention prgram and will prevent some of the programs from installing in the future. AFter all the programs have been run, run your virus scan (if you dont have one AVG virus scan is good and is also free). Restart your computer and if the problem still presists just reinstall windows. You can get a legitimate copy (techbargains.com) or obtain a cd from windows (search microsoft website) you just have to prove you are actual owner the version you have. And remember to update windows sometimes the security updates really help. Furthermore quit using Internet explorer and download Mozilla firefox and it will greatly reduce the amount of crap you accumulate on your computer. Run those programs atleast 1 or twice a week if not everyday and remeber to update periodically. Alse delete all the files in your preftech folder under windows this will help some too. _hope this isnt too much and it helps!!!!!!!!!!!!

never mess with the registry unless you know what you are doing. you could mess your pc up farther. you should already have the cd for xp if it is on your computer. yes reinstalling and starting over does sound like the best advice because there are some viruses that just dont want to go away. make sure you scan for viruses first and maybe you can find an anti-virus software that will delete it. there is a website called housecall that will scan your computer for free. if you dont have your cd for xp...that is pretty expensive. you would be better off copying one of your friends.

As a Network Admin hear is my advise, if you have viruses the best thing too do is to reinstall Windows. You should of gotten a restore disk with your computer, if not than you will have to buy Windows XP or call the manufacturer of your computer and ask them regarding the restore disk and directions on how to restore your computer. Windows XP is about $99.00. Since you don’t know what viruses you have I would suggest to install a Norton anti virus and run only on your files that you need to back up, if the files are good back them up. If you can’t get a restore from your manufacturer and you will buy Windows XP than do following when reinstall windows make sure that you will delete any partitions, than install the partition, than you will go next it will format your hard rive, make sure you do full format. Window will format you hard drive and will install Windows. Just fallow the direction.

Hope this information will help resolve your problems and you don't have to reinstall your platform.

If you want to spend a small amount of money this program for sure will resolve all of your anti-virus problems.

Now here is the program I have used for nine years and never had one virus/spyware or malware in my system.

Being a clinical psychiatrist I have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean from all virus/spyware/malware.

I tested every free and purchase antivirus system known. An I found only one that actually works 100%. Never had a virus or spyware in my system in nine years.

Go to, www.filseclab.com and download thier Twister AntiTrojan Virus program. (You will have to pay a small one time fee). You will never have to pay an annual fee for updates, support or new versions. The one time fee is for life.

The software company is located in Beijing, China. They have excellent support, frequent large signature updates an as always all new versions are free. No annual fee for anything.

Comes with a real time scanner that really works. Actually I am quite amazed over the nine years how well it works.

Scans memory on startup.
Real time scanning in the background.
Open any webpage with an embedded trojan/spyware or malware and scanner will clean on the spot. An It is really removed from your system.

Download any kind of program from zips, software files, music, etc, etc, an if there is a hidden embedded trojan, spyware, malware, this program will stop the download and clean. An will advise you to end the download.

Will even find a virus in the installer wizard, like "Wise Installer". And will stop the installation while it is being installed and clean. Plus this program always will trace back who installed the trojan.

I had a trojan in and wizard installer. Twister caught the trojan and stopped the installation. I wrote the origianl company and told them the wizard installer had an embedded trojan to steal your data. The company now uses thier own installer.

You can't beat this software for a one time purchase fee only. Actually I don't know of any antivirus progam that even comes close to this state of the art technology.

All I can say it is worth the one time fee. Your pc cost alot of money and you don't want it destroyed. Plus your privacy is protected at all times.

There is nothing in it for me to praise this program. I tell it like it is. If it is crap then I will say so.

And you can also go to www.rosecitysoftware.com and download their Registry First Aid software. They allow you to use it for 15 days to test. After you install run the box that say "run the registry for errors". It will perform a full backup before this software runs. Then delete everything that is found with a check mark next to the green box. You can delete the check marks next to the yellow box. Unless you are an expert, leave the check marks next to the red box, don't delete.

For a good back-up for malware, trojans, keyloggers, etc. etc., here are two free programs. www.emsisoft.com They are in Germany. You will only have to register with them and they will send you a free registration key for you to use. You use your email address & the registration key they send. Make sure you download the their free version. It works the same as the a2squared malware. You just don't get auto updates or the guard in the tray.

Or you can go to www.ewido.net, or www.grisoft.com and download "Ewido Malware". Don't worry that is ask you to purchase. After 30 days and you don't purchase the program will remove the auto updates and the guard in the tray. And you can still use the program. Just have to do a manual update. Plus all the guard are good for nothing, as they just use up your CPU resources. (RAM)

PS: If that is your picture you are very pretty. If you need further help email: montagejames@hotmail.com

Give credit to the first response...it's good advice. At this stage you're better off saving your documents and other files that you've created yourself to CD's or DVD's, and then just reinstall Windows and your other programs from the original discs. Good luck.
