I am Mormon. I believe in Jesus Christ, and that he is our Savior. My husband is only married to me, and I don't know anyone with more that one wife. I believe in and study the bible along with the Book of Mormon. I don't belong to a cult. I just don't understand why people believe things that are completely untrue, especially when they come from people who apparently know nothing about our church.

You're right daisykristina. I shouldn't get so angry about this. I just take it personally when people believe things that aren't true about something I hold sacred. I need to let it go and appreciate the people who have open minds and don't just believe anything negative that they hear.

As a fellow member, I appreciate you making the clarifications.

But don't worry about it so much about all the confusion, because most of it really is genuine confusion. They've been told these things by people or sources they normally feel like they can trust, and just don't think to question it.

Some people will never change their minds no matter what we say, but I've always been pleasantly surprised by the people who are open minded enough to accept some clarification.

best wishes.

Even though I am not Mormon, I suffer a similar problem being a Catholic. There are many misconceptions about all faiths. I'm sure I beleive things about your church that are completly false as you do about mine. However I don't beleive everything I hear about Mormons unless I hear it from a Mormon myself. I am familiar with some Mormon teachings, I have Mormon friends. I'm not one to judge her, like she doesn't judge me. People beleive certain things. Think: do you beleive things about other churches that you don't really know about? Everyone is guilty of that. Even I am. Just don't listen to them. You know the truth about your church.

Maybe it's because the truth - as told by Mormons and ex-mormons - is so damn odd.

We are expected to believe that Christ visited America to see a civilisation of Jews who fought amongst themselves until they all died and left no trace whatsoever? And we are supposed to believe this because we are told as much by a man with multiple wives, some of whom were little more than children and some of whom WERE MARRIED TO OTHER MEN AT THE TIME. Don't believe me, look up Joseph Smith in your own geneological records.

Cause I heard that somewhere...LOL...just kid'n
I think you deserve a real answer. First..for "ME" it's the book of Mormon from 1820 or something..you know what I mean...the civilization in North America...hard to swallow for me. Also a BIGIE for me is that in Christian book stores the books that are written about Mormon are written by ex-Mormon who left the Church and became saved ..got out!
But I think Mormons that I have met are good people and I generally like em

I'm Mormon too. I'm glad you posted some clarifications. I agree with daisykristina. For some people they just don't think to question their sources. When I converted my Mom talked with her Methodist pastor. He really didn't know the first thing about our beliefs and quickly turned her against anything positive about us. When I tried to explain what I believed and how that differed from what her pastor told her we believe she said, "That may be how you believe, but it's not how they believe." When I told her that they did believe what I said and that I had asked them personally before joining, she said, "They lied to you. They don't really believe that. They just said that to decieve you into joining them." That's when I realized my Mother would never believe another word I said about religion. So I don't even discuss it with her anymore.

All religions are cults - therefore you are in a cult.

Your cult believes a guy talked to a hat that told him things.

Maybe you are just believing what the Morman church is telling you----and it's not really true. It is a cult and it's scary!
