You should be taking in about 3500 calories a day in order to gain a pound every two or three days. Are you looking to do this in a healthy way? Because if you are, then I reccomend adding shakes to your diet, and adding formulas such as "Carnation instant breakfast" to your meals. Some Carnation drinks can add up to 500 calories at a time! Count your calories to make sure you are getting at least 3500. Drink shakes (consisting of milk, bananas, peanut butter etc.), and add formulas to each meal. That would be the healthiest way for your heart without working out!

It's not wise to just gain 20lbs without working out, to accomplish that you'd only be putting fat into your body. When you add 20lbs to your body you need to be working out so that your heart is being trained to produce the proper blood flow for this new weight on your frame. If you just go to McDonalds and get two big macs a day I'm sure you'll gain weight but you'll also be risking health problems and will definately experience issues with your stamina and energy levels.

My brothers used to play football and have 2-a-day practices. They could not keep the weight on at that time. My mom made them special "shakes" to help them gain weight. Put in a blender Whole milk (Vitamin D - no low fat stuff), raw egg, sugar or honey, raw eggs. Mix it up and drink it straight. They used to drink several a day. You could look for high protein drinks as well in the supermarket.

Weight gain is caused by eating more calories than you burn. Double your portions and you should gain weight. It is the calories rather than the type of food that causes you to gain weight.
