So my boyfriend is currently mad at me and refuses to speak to me because I said that there is a theory that since man wrote the Bible, that the Bible is flawed, and that man could introduced his own ideas into the Bible.

Now I was not even saying that I agreed with the "idea" I was just pointing out like some "reasons" that this could be true.

He says I was challenging his religion, I just say it was conversation. What do you think?

I really felt like he wanted me to not challenge his beliefs, but I was just saying that there is this idea that has been around for ages. There is no way I am smart enough to come up with something that huge on my own.

A lot of words we say can be misconstrued by the way we say them (tone of voice). If you want him to listen to what you are saying with an open mind, try not to be confrontational. Or, it could be he felt threatened by your comments and didn't know how to respond, so he got angry. Religion is a very touchy subject and should be handled with care. God Bless!!

I think that anytime you bring up an idea with a highly religious person, you risk getting yoru own feelings hurt, as well as hurting them.
While it may be true tht the bible was written by man and therefore the writer(s) could have introduced their own ideas as well, it may be hard fr some people to concede to. Obviously, it ahd to be written by man, for the reason that 'God' is an omnipotent being- taht is, he has no form, and therefore, would have a hard time writing.

I think the best thing to do is to hold this converstaion with other people- obviously it upsets him, and if you value your relationship, and love him, then you'll leave it alone for a while, until he draws his own conclusions (if he does)

One theory would be that he's insecure in his beliefs, and so gets defensive when they're challenged.

But that's not necessarily true. It COULD be true, or perhaps he's just quite militant about his beliefs, and will tolerate no other religions before him.

Or maybe he's just very pious, and will tolerate no criticism of things he has deemed correct.

I know you're not asking for advice, but if I were you, I'd take this opportunity to examine your relationship. Is it just this one area where he gets like this; was he perhaps just having a bad day? Or is it a sign that he will brook no argument from you?

If you can't have a mature debate about religion--something that DOES affect relationships--then you'd have to ask yourself how can you ever argue anything with him if you both don't agree? Will he just phase you out whenever you have an opposing opinion?

I think that people who can't defend thier beliefs are very insecure in them.

Sounds like you need a new "botfriend" (whatever that is)... if he is so closed minded to even have an intelligent conversation then he is definitely brainwashed... but I would keep talking to him... perhaps he will come around

your boyfriend sounds very insecure about his belief. Having a different idea about divinity is important in religion

He seems way too sensitive about his religion. What kind of relationship can you have if you can't discuss things like this? Especially if you had children?
