Why should they bother?
It gets them just as many votes to split on the issue, shout and scream and fight about it, and both sides of the argument retain the support of the people who are voting for them.
I think it's time to send a message to Congress. Eliminate every incumbent. Vote an entirely new slate. Show them that the American people have a backbone.
Of course, this requires the American voters to grow a backbone.

Especially in an election year. They will continue to pander. And if Dems take back house or senate, the SURE won't deal with it.

Not before the elections there are to many opposeing view points on both sides so they can't get a clear idea of how the public wants this to come out. This is truely a bipartisian issue.

Only if the American people overwhelmingly and in public, DEMAND that they(Congress) do so.
Congress and the President are CORRUPT beyond belief where illegal aliens are concerned.

Congress is going to sit on the fence on this one, at least until the election is over, to see which way the wind is blowing .... which is why it's so important we all vote in November and let the sorry s.o.b.'s on Capital Hill know what is expected of them ......

I don't think they will ever make it a priority. For some reason they just don't think it's important to protect our borders. I predict within 10 years we will be in the middle of a civil war with all illegal immagrants to protect our jobs, our borders, our lives! It's sad we pay our government to protect us but in the end we have to do it ourselves!

In about 10 years it will be some watered down bill that will do little to nothing. To many special interests in Washington.
