Merely reading the Bible and interpreting to your understanding is not the proper way. Reading and studying the Bible, and searching the Scriptures is. There are many study aids that can help with understanding. The Strong's Bible dictionary is one good source. Many words in the Bible may have a completely different meaning, than what you perceive it to mean. A prayer for understanding and wisdom doesn't hurt either. Especially if you're diligent about what your doing.

People are free to read and interpret the Bible as they see fit. That is their freedom as a conscience human being, but I don't think it is good to do this. If one were to err in his interpretation, then it can create a whole host of problems. Generally speaking, this is how cults begin.
A person should be willing to allow others who have been taught the scriptures to teach them the scriptures. This way, a person can ask questions and be guided in the right direction so that they will be able to interpret the Bible in such a way that doesn't lead to heresy.

Yes and No.
Yes people should strive to understand the bible and then worship accordingly, but that being said they should also get help from those who have studied professionally and follow thier teaching. Sometimes a naked reading of the text can lead us astray from the truth because of the preconcieved notions that we bring to the text.

I think that, in an ideal world, everyone would read all religious texts they could get their hands on, from the bible to the Koran to the writings of Buddhists and Hindus and anything else. That way, they can make an informed decision about what to believe... or what not to believe.

The Bible does say to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Meaning in simpler terms, each man and woman is responsible for his or her own life and how it is lived. The time spent worshipping, and style of worship will fall in his\her lap at the appointed time to give an account for him\herself.

no one should not read the bible and form their own conclusions .
priests have studied many years and therefore are in a better position to translate the meanings .
if we do it on our own there will be a lot of different opinions which can cause confusions .
