We have been posponing getting her sterilized and just today she started bleeding. Would it be unwise to get her operated now? She does get a bit weak when in heat. Any thoughts?

It's possible to spay a dog during estrus, or heat, but it's not the best time. Most veterinarians prefer not to spay a dog in estrus because the uterine tissue can be swollen, fragile, and more prone to damage. Dogs also have a tendency to bleed more when they're in heat. Because of this, estrus makes surgery more risky for dogs.
Most veterinarians prefer to delay spaying a dog until she has been out of estrus for a month or so. And, since a recently spayed dog may still be attractive to males, performing the surgery during heat won't do anything to keep the neighbors' dogs out of your yard. The best thing for your dog's health is to keep her safe inside for now and to have your veterinarian perform surgery in a month or so.

Call your vet and ask. The bleeding may be a result of something other then heat/season, so it would be wise to check, but they can be spayed anytime after 6 months, some will do it sooner however.

Yes it is possible to get her spayed during her heat cycles, however IMO I would wait until shes finish... Vets charges extra when the female that's schedule to be spayed are in heat because the Internal organs are swollen and it takes more time to finish the job.

Yes, it can be done, but they will charge a bit more when the dog is in heat or pregnant. I always spay or neuter my pets before they come in heat the first time.

No, a vet will do the spay, it just may cost a few $ more. The sooner she's spayed the better.

A dog *can* be spayed while in heat/bleeding.

just wait until the bleeding stops then go to the vet.
It's ok, you can get dogs sterilized anytime (as long as they aren't bleeding) so go ahead and do the surgery!
