as i said in a thread yesterday-if it works use it-but by the same token it depends on the situation-if the guy is drunk/high on drugs and i have no other choice then a right hook to the jaw will be applied and this usually suffices. but if i can i will ALWAYS try to walk away. if the situation were to become more serious (such as a weapon being produced) then i would have no problem delivering a kick to the genitals if the oppertunity presented itself. "i would rather be judged by twelve than be carried by six".

I wouldn't necessarily classify him as a martial artist. I have no training in martial arts, but I used to play soccer, so I could deliver a pretty strong kick to someone else's genitals. That doesn't make me a good street fighter. I would assume that his skills aren't what he thinks they are, otherwise he would find other ways of subduing his opponents. I also don't think that a lot of ethical rules apply to a street fight-it is not a sanctioned event or demonstration, so he is free to wail away on another man's testicles if he deems appropriate, but I think he is a coward for doing so, especially since he has training in martial arts (allegedly).

It is never ethical to choose to fight. A fight is a willing physical clash of egos. So, a fight is a chosen challenge.
If he is attacked against his will it is then a self-defense situation. Anything goes in a self-defense situation. No ethics are involved only survival.
What you are describing sounds like a self-defense situation and I think his groin shots are smart.

'All is fair in love and war'....and a street fight. If he gave the guy a chance and even turned around and walked away only to be attacked, by all means, an attack to the groin area is legal and ethical.

In a "Street fight" it usually is pretty brutal,it is taught in "KENPO"
style of fighting,but as with any other art there are techniques that are taught,that you must decide if you really want to use them ,the decision youmust ask your self in that fraction of a second :
Is my DO I FEAR for MY LIFE?I know one student who did that and missed, hit the guy in the thigh, dropped him good,but after he said he was glad he missed,you decide ,for a Martial Artist who gets into alot of confrontations like as you say ,there must be
some sort of PROBLEM going on here,either he is BRAGGING and people want to try him out ,or he is using what he learns in the wrong way,maybe his Instructor didn't see if he was HUMBLE enough proir to teaching him,I have turned down many students who I felt would use what was taught them in the wrong way,sure enough they went somewhere else and I see them bragging etc...and bullying other people around,,so you see, I see many variations to your question? there are many unanswered questions to your question,so to answer your question I say
" For every action there is a reaction"
so in leaving MOST people who learn any type of Martial Art,Boxing etc... that I have come across all have the same AURA about them ;
They are HUMBLE

WHAT?! Ethical in street fight? Are you trying to be a cowboy or something?
Think about this carefully, if you have to protect someone you really care about. Will you really waste your time trying to be a "gentleman"? I know I wouldn't!

Yes, it's ethical It's called self-defense. If you are attacked, take out your assailant ASAP and then get out of there.

of course. strikes to the groin are very effective, and a way to end the fight without causing serious harm like broken bones and/or ligiments. if you think about it if your freind is highly trained he is doing them a favor. he could hit'em in the face.
the guy below me will worry you trust me. i dont think he is hitting people with the force nessasary to do that kind of damage, if he wanted to hurt them that bad he could break their arm just as easily.
