If your cat needs a friend, you should get another cat. Usually other types of animals don't get along. Just like you wouldn't put a cat & dog together (usually), you don't put a cat & a bird or a cat & a guinea pig together.

Try getting a kitten that is 8 weeks old and healthy, lots of energy to use up and maybe youur adult cat will perk up. If that does not work try geting your cat some organic catnip or catnip treated toys. Has your cat been to a vet recently for a health checkup? There could be something wrong that is causing your cat to just mope around such as it not feeling well or it could be in pain.

There are a few things that you can get that will make a great companion for your cat. Rabbits, ferrets,or even a small dog(depending on your time, and living space). Whatever you get as a companion for your cat try to get it from an animal shelter. Shelters have great animals that need loving homes.

Good luck on you hunt for your kitty's companion.

A cat could do well with most animals (except the obvious like a bird or something) My cat does really well with my dog, rabbits and guinea pig.

Ideally if you are looking for a playmate or something I would suggest another cat. that is going to be your best bet.

A rabbit.
My friend has a bunny and her cat actually goes IN THE CAGE with the rabbit and snuggles! It's so cute!
Plus they aren't natural enemies and the cat is only slightly bigger so no threat.

I'm glad you asked this question. I have a kitten that I just found about two weeks ago. She is starting to get used to her surroundings and is trying to play with anything she can. We play with her but we can't compare to another cat. Thanks again for this question because I am in the same situation ;)

I have a dog....my cat and him get along pretty well for the most part. She also has a toy that she loves to drag around with her everywhere like a security blanket...may try that. =)

Another cat would be the safest choice. Even then, you need to have one with a complimentary personality.
