Say I forget to bring along my powerpoint presentation. Is there an easy way to log into my computer at home (I'm at the university) and retrieve it?

.
To view your files stored on your computer from another computer you will need Adminstrator access to both computers > set up a Network with a mutual WORKGROUP > and then map the drives to each other.

All of these instructions are free > found in your EXPLORE instructions
Right click START button> left click EXPLORE > on top tool bar go to INDEX and begin with
How to set up a home network
Map Network drive
If you want to do this function over the internet you will need to do Remote Desktop.

lots of fun

You can't unless you have setup'd your PC network for remote access. Well, you can hack it but if your asking then I believe that's not on your possibilities list.
