Definitely into all of the above. And I agree that Jazz is becoming a dying art. It is too bad that the venues are being given over to more popular, money-making styles.

Anyway, my main favs include Miles, Stanley Clarke, Jaco, Victor Wooten, Woody Herman, The Duke, Louis, Chick Corea, Return to Forever, Weather Report, and the Modern Jazz Quartet.

yeah. I love Jazz. I was raised on it. My first guitar was bought because I saw the great Jazz guitarman Joe Pass perform on the old Steve Allen show. I went on to play all kinds of music, but the freedom and complexity of jazz always remained at the center of my musical work. I don't think I ever became a good jazz player, even after I studied with some really good ones, but what I learned about improvising, and listening to my ffellow musicians has allowed me to play well in every other medium I have approached.

Jazz is, in my opinion, the greatest contribution America made to world music.

These days, because of a real lack of public appreciation in it, and a real shortage of performing venues for working musicians, jazz is dying out. But as long as there are musicians who find it inspiring, it will hang in there as a real musical art form.

I love jazz. End of story. My favorite players are Armstrong, Trane, Brubeck, Bird, Diz, Miles, and of course the amazing Ella Fitzgerald.
