It all depends on your taste, budget, and the room that you're trying to decorate. Try going to HGTV.com and looking at some of the ideas they have. There's a section there called "Designer's Portfolio" which has hundreds of pictures of rooms. Look through them and see what you like and don't like.

Some suggestions: paint the walls! It might be a neutral color, or a bright splash of color on one wall, but color can wake up a room that's boring builder's white or beige. If you can't paint because you're a renter, try using fabric instead: tack or staple drapery to the walls, or use ordinary laundry starch to stick it on like wallpaper. It can be removed when you move out, although the starch will mean washing your walls.

Find or make some fun accent pieces: for a few dollars you can get a canvas and paint, or you could hit the flea markets and bring home some secondhand treasures. If you don't like the flooring, get a rug and cover it - rugs work perfectly well on carpet, and can really warm up a tile or wood floor.

The only limit is your imagination!

Yep I particular did...we did not understand what sex we were having so we determined on a Sesame street subject. I painted the right 1/2 of each wall a cream colour then the bottom 1/2 of each wall has a diverse colour to blend with subject (pink, blue, eco-friendly, yellow). between both colorations I placed a Sesame street frieze round. My better half outfitted some cabinets and on the right 2 we've filled Sesame street toys as well as 2 decrease outs (Oscar and count number). We actually have a correct chart and some blankets and sheets (yet are not used very frequently). i needed the room to seem as if a nursery yet as well be gender impartial. We intend to have some extra toddlers so this would genuinely very last us. when we placed our son into his new room we can beautify that too yet depending what he likes on the time.

the girls are right. look in magaznes and clip out pics of things you likejust to get a general idea of what you want to see and feel in the room in question. and take pics of the room in question and start your own book of ideas.
set a budget: basically what can you afford to spend in one shot.
then make a list of necessary items for the room ( depending on the room and the function.)
color is a big thing! if you think you like the color from those little paint swatches that you pick from in the store. tape a few of them (of the same color) at the potential space and live with it for 48 hrs. that will let you see how the paint looks at diffrent times of the day. dark colors seem to make a room look smaller but not always the case.
I heard that a room should be 75 percent of the color you choose
vertical stripes (if thats what you want) make a room look taller
go window shopping and take pictures of things you like and would consider in the room and take measurements.(some people are funny about it so i would ask before getting picture happy.)

hope it helps. kisses

You need to pick a theme first. Something that reflects your interests, tastes, or dreams. Surfer? Asian Zen? Romantic? That will give you a direction on how to decorate.

Blue is a great color for bedroom walls! It's very relaxing and calm. Just what you want in a bedroom :).See if your folks will allow you to paint your walls.

i recently had my living room decorated and it looks fantastic, different walls are painted a darker colour of the same paint, i would advise to look round shops like B&Q for paint and magazines and internet for ideas for the decoration part.

really depends on what room and what colors you like. you didn't tell us. i would look in decorating magazines and flag things you like. then incorporate all of it into a room that is personal to you.
