I had some dental work done, two teeth side by side - one with a root canal, and the other with a very deep filling. Ever since, I get a metalic tang that tastes bad every now and again, and sometimes it tastes a bit like the spices in mulled wine. It is coming from the area of the filled teeth. Will this go away on its own, or do I need to go back to my dentist?

Oh, I haven't had the crown on the root canal yet, waiting to see what happens to the other tooth first.

A metallic taste in the mouth is a common complaint and can be due to a variety of causes -

1. Do you have bleeding gums after the dental procedures? When blood breaks down, iron is released and causes a metallic taste in mouth.
2. What color of filling did you get? A uncommon reason for a metallic taste in mouth is due to the dental silver/mercury/Amalgam fillings (perfectly safe). The taste normally goes away after a week.
3. Medications and dry mouth can also be a cause.

Hope that helps.

each time i have had a filling, get that metalic taste too for a couple days...if it doesn't go away, call your dentist.
