I had a dog like that (he was a great dog, too). Barked if a blade of grass swayed in the wind. They bark at night noises and at reflections, so try crating him at night & put a blanket over the top half so he doesn't see himself reflected in windows or mirrors and think another good looking dog is trying to break in! It will ease his anxiety and should lessen the barking.

I always thought dogs new what they were barking at. One day, the mail man approached. He gave me the mail. I put it in the mail slot. My dog was barking at me the whole time. "Stop it you crazy dog. Its just me!" My dog didn't listen. That crazy dog grabbed the mail from my hand. Dogs might be good at smelling, hearing, and who knows what all. But when they go crazy. They stay crazy. Be careful around dogs.

You think they are barking at nothing, but dogs have better hearing and better eye sight than humans...there probably is SOMETHING there!

He/she or probably hears wild animals that you cannot such as squirrels or racoons in your back yard. My German Shepherd barks at 4:00 am every morning cause one of our neighbours takes his great Dane walking through everyones neighborhood with His Dog following him outside his car. talk about lazy!!!

Probably for the same reason people talk about nothing. Just getting heard and let you know he/she is there. And that everything is O.K. in the world. Time for a bit of attention. Time to get cozy and settle in for the night.
At least that is what my dog told me when I asked him that question.

your dog's hearing is alot better than yours-therefore he hears things beyond your range of hearing and barks at it.
