Amen to you, my thoughts precisely, I too have searched many churches to fulfill my spiritual needs, and only found judgement for those not believing the way they did, so am very happy to say I have a great personal relationship with God, which has nothing to do with any of the stuff you just said. I can do whatever I want, as can anyone, but there are those Universal Laws, so whatever I sow I shall reap, what comes around goes around etc. So, it is my personal choice to live a good life. And I believe for as far as God is concerned tithing is not a neccesity, but being kind and helpful (and if you can do that in a monetary way great, if you want to do some voluteer work, great, or if you want to smile at someone and make their live a little brither it is all just the same to God..... I think)
PS So what are you now if I may ask:>)

So what do you do now? The tithe is not just to support the Pastor. It pays the electric and gas bills for the church. It pays for the bulletins each Sunday. It pays for the parking lot to be repaved every year and books for Sunday school. It pays for groceries and needs for poor people. Sometimes the church will pay for camp for needy children. It pays for missionaries in foreign lands. It helps pay for the christian school next door. (My church) The kids in the Christian School have organized sports. Soccer, basketball, baseball. They play public and private schools within a 45 mile area. We all cut our hair. I won't let my son grow it long. yuck! I wear make up. But I do draw the line at drinking. I just don't believe I should be. But I do know people in the church that do. I go to movies, but I know of people in my church that don't go to movies. We stick to the doctrine and let the rest of the non-doctrine go to what people believe. No pressure. If you read Acts, you will see that Peter ate meat when alot of the other Christians would not. We are not to judge. But we also are not to let another stumble because of our ideas. If I drink, my kids might say, well mom drinks, so can I. They go out and drink and get drunk. Then I have made them stumble. I don't consider myself a fanatic, I just love the Lord and want to follow Him.

If you re-read your own comments, then perhaps you can now understand why religion is a serious mental illness. It’s the inability to face the reality of life and the finality of death. It affects 85% of the USA and 75% of US victims are Christians. The more pathetic and desperate a persons life, the more likely they are to believe in a god. People with otherwise empty lives, are the strongest believers. It gives them false hope that there’s a higher meaning to their sad and pathetic lives.
Religious people are dangerous. They cannot think for themselves, but instead cling to every word the bible says. Religious fanatics can somehow throw out all scientific evidence and replace it with the word of one book that has no credibility.
My studies and research shows that religious people are not exactly rocket scientists, they tend to be below average intelligence, and also have a tendency to be more violent than non-believers. In some cases, the more violent the person, the more religious they are. I suspect that the vast majority of religious people are well below average intelligence.
I wonder if trying to improve the intellectual standard of our global community would help remove the various religions from our culture, and thereby improve happiness and peace for humanity.

How did Jesus Live?! By an instruction manual? How did He teach His followers to live? By example.
If living in truth is fanaticism then count me in. I have never found the Truth as bondage however. It has actually set me free. So, maybe you should study "critically" God from many different perspectives. The Holy Spirit will act within you if you are willing to be open and enlightened.

Cutting your hair is a sin? Were you in a church or a cult? Stick with the Bible and look for a good Bible-believing church. There are still some around although they're hard to find.

organized religion is about domination, not spirituality
they portray the Creator in a way that serves their own selfish desire - the sooner people get away from that, the better

Because murder is illegal nowadays. Can you honestly say you've been murdering all the people the "word" says you're supposed to? No one can live rules that are thousands of years out of date.
