I'm thinking about taking a shot at it, and I'd like some ideas about how to get started. What does the process involve and what will I need to get started?

start here:

and read up and look at the products and i'd start off with the starter kit. get a kit.. it will also have instructions.. and start out small!

oh don't get those easy does it beer kits where the kit looks like a keg or a giant beer... those are garbage... this stuff on this site is the real deal. you can keep on using this equipment and it's easy to use, clean and service.

that's how i got started.. i just bought a kit and read a little good information and then trial and error it.

oh yes stay away from the sites: http://www.mrbeer.com/ and those kits that look like that.
they are garbage! believe me! please at all costs don't get this crap. it's got a high failure rate, the plastic is cheap, the beer will be crap and you'll have to move up to the real equipment anyhow. so don't do that!

i wish i could find the old site i used to get my equipment and instructions from and the kits i can't forget that.

but with the forementioned you should be well on your way to the first try.

the first try even if it goes bad somehow.. (i mean you really got to mess it up on purpose to have it get messed up.) is the best experience ever. the first is the special.

have fun, this is a fun hobby!

and you get loads of beer out of it! hiccup!

ah here's the old site i used to get all my supplies and reading materials!

and their starter kit.

nothing better while you're thinking about your first brew and reading brewing literature and recipes while on the crapper dreaming of that first crisp, delicious beer.

now i got to make some dammit!

Here's the quick and dirty:

...it's exactly as it says :)

Also, check in your area for local homebrew stores (Mr. Google can be helpful in that). The people there are always happy to share their knowledge...perhaps even boast of a few tricks they know.
