For seemingly no reason? There are no cars in front of them and no cops around,no accidents to stare at(which also infuriates me), absolutely no reason for them to slam on their brakes. Does anyone know why people do this? Does this happen in places other than Miami? I've driven all over the Eastern US and never seen it anywhere else.

I think that you are dealing with a geriactic issue. I have seen the phenomenon you are describing near Sun City CA and the drivers are usually octogenarians. They see things in front of them that you cannot see. Usually the result of being over medicated. Also consider that Miami is a big druggie area. Maybe the same thing happens for the younger set that is high on other things too.

Only reason I would do that is if someone is riding my *ss! If you are driving to close then I will push on my brakes..I don't slam on them but I will try to give them the hint that they better back off. I always drive 60 in a 55 so its not like I am driving slow..But it does p*ss me off when someone won't pass me or won't back off some. Other than that I don't know why people do it.

One of two reasons come to mind. One, they may think you are too close to them and are trying to get you to back off. The other could be they are actually trying to cause an accident, get you sited for it, then come the neck and back pains and the insurance claims... etc, etc. It happens all the time.

You'll never want to drive around Memphis, TN then. I think it's a southern thing to ride the brakes. They do it all of the time here.
