Does it bother you when someone gets on the elevator and goes up only one floor? (This is assuming that a) there's an accessible stairway nearby; b) the person isn't carrying a heavy or cumbersome luggage/briefcase; and c) the person isn't physically disabled.)

Oops, I meant that there's NOT an accessible stairway nearby!

Hmm...who said I was mad or upset about it? What if I'm asking because I am one of those people? You guys want to talk about assuming this or that--maybe you shouldn't assume I'm asking this question out of anger. :)

It bugs me when there IS an accessible stairwell, but it doesnt when there isnt. I work on the 7th floor, and for me thats too much climbing!

No, not really. Some people have uncomfortable work shoes, and some people are actually a little afraid to go in the stairwell for some reason. And some people, like my sister, work in places (such as hospitals) where everyone goes on the elevator, even if it's just one floor. So when they go to another building, the get on the elevator by habit, without considering where the stairs might be. But why get mad about it? Isn't that an unnecessary waste of energy?

Yes it does! I work in a building where the elevators are so crowded, one often has to WAIT IN LINE to get on the elevator. Now if someone takes the elevator up one floor, when they could take the stairs, and so adds to the crowding of the elevator for no good reason, it makes me mad. We even had a memo sent out to all employees suggesting that people take the stairs if they need to go 1 or 2 floors up.

It does bother me sometimes, especially when the elevator is filled and there are masses of people waiting to board an elevator has some standing room. But I try to keep in mind that just because I can't physically see an impairment, doesn't mean that there isn't one. I know I have both knees badly in need of surgical repair and any support I may wear it hidden inside my jeans.

Please don't be so quick to judge people as not having physical disability. There are a myriad of problems that do not have a handicapped "look."
I know someone with heart problems who isn't supposed to exert that much effort. Others have breathing problems. One has severe back problems. I have bad knees and am waiting for replacement surgery. To look at any of us, we all look "normal".
Having a problem with your health is bad enough, let alone being judged for taking the elevator up one flight.

Nope that is what the thing is there for - to give you a ride up and down floors! I would never be so presumptious as to assume they have not diasbilities or any other good reason for riding, nor do I consider everything in the world to be about me.

No it generally doesn't bother. In an elevator what bothers me is people talking on their cell phone (if they get service), people who try to small talk with me, kids who hit all the buttons and people who stand too close to me when its not crowded.

You never know if someone might have a bad knee or hip or a heart condition that would prevent them from climbing stairs. Don't get upset about this kind of inconsequential thing. You'll live longer and be happier.

Yes it does make me upset, but we cant do anything about it. They have a right to ride the elevator too.
