This psalm expresses David's awe that God knows him completely, even to the minutest detail. I believe the part you are referring to is this-
Psalm 139:19-22
"Oh, that You would slay the wicked,
O God!
Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men.
For they speak against You wickedly;
Your enemies take Your name in vain.
Do I not hate them, O LORD, Who hate You?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
I hate them with perfect hatred;
I count them my enemies."
Here David is expressing his allegience to God and his desire for God's justice against His enemies. See how David then invites God to search his heart for any unrighteousness, even when expressed against God's enemies.
Psalm 139:23-24
"Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting."

Matthew 5: 43-48 say, "You have heard that it was said,'Love your neighbor and hate your enemies.' But I say to you, love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. If you do this, you will be true children of your father in heaven. . . If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that. And if you are nice only to your friends, you are no better than other people. Even those who don't know God are nice to their friends. So you must be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."
In Psalm 139, the author is saying he hates his enemies and wants them destroyed - not God.

You are just picking the parts of the bible that makes it look cruel and vicious. what about the other parts like Psalms 137:9 where it says: Happy is the one who takes your babies heads and smashes them against the rocks!
Uh well maybe you are right. about the old testament. But in the new testament it talks about torturing people for eternity.
Uh well don't read those parts. They are written out of context.
When you read the bible the words do not mean what they say. You have to believe and don't think too much to understand them.

Psalms 139.19-22
Is talking about hating.
"A declaration of loyalty that echos the pledge required by ancient Near eastern Kings of their vassals.
"With friends my friend you shall be my friend, and with my enemy you shall be my enemy". from a treaty between Mursilli ll, a Hittite King, and Tette of Nuhassi, 14th century B.C.
"You live by the sword, you die by the sword."
The New Testament teaching is love your enemy. Too many people take the word "love" at it's improper meaning.
Love. Greek= love less..=hate not.
You (love less) your enemy.
You (hate not) your enemy.
This (love) is the same (love) Jesus used in:
Love your enemies as you love yourselves.
Love less your enemies, as you love less yourselves.
Hate not your enemies as you hate not yourselves.
There is absolutely nothing about kissing your enemy on the nose and loving them and showering them with gifts. In fact, is says just the 180. God, Himself tells Christians who to shun and stay away from, leave them alone.
Good Question.

This Hebrew poem (Psalm 139) is attributed to King David of Isreal. King David is arguing in support of his faithfulness to God. He makes a clear distinction between his own behavior and that of his accusers, who are the enemies of God. In this way he is separating himself from any further dealings with them. He even goes so far as to wish that God would kill them. These were the wishes of a man, not of God.
19. Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, 0 God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
21. Do not I hate them, 0 LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
22. I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

The old testament has quite a bit of ugly things like that--- But that's why Jesus is so radical--he says to love our enemies!
It the difference of grace vs works...

These are the words of someone in pain. How would you react in those circumstances? Hasn't grief or anger made you do or say extreme things?
