some people are asking for their kids to be beaten up as school.
They think it's a laugh to name them stupid names and five years later realise how stupid they were to call them Maximus because they liked the film Gladiator.
Stick to something decent, for your kids sake.

Some people with a very common last name like "Smith" want more unique names so their kids are not confused with other people. And some people just hear a name they really like and want to use it!

i think the reason that so many parents choose odd names for their children is that they don't want them to have the same name as someone else in their school. If i had a name like jennifer, or jessica their would have been probably 10 others in the school.Plus it helps teachers in remembering their childs name. I mean come on if i was a teacher and i had a student named apple i think i would remember their name a little better.

Because it's nice to be able to say your kid's name without 10 other kids turning around.

I love the idea of unique names (as long as they aren't too out there). When I was in school there were 2 other girls in my class with my name not to mention the other 10 or so girls in the rest of the school with my name. It was very annoying.

for attention i imagine. some names are kinda unique in a way, some are rather stupid. Sometimes I wonder about these movie stars and where the heck do they come up with names like Finneus. Who in their right mind would call their child that ? totally weird. what ever happened to natural common names anyways?

I think they do this because they want their kids to grow up like them and make a career out of working at McDonald's or CVS or a strip club. Movie stars' children excluded, how many people do you know named LaShieka or Tamarius or Juneatta or any other host of "weird" names who hold professional positions?

So My husband's name is Chris Jones. Now how many other people in the world have this name? For our wedding registry there were at least 300 other Chris Jones' in the United states. That's why people have unique names for their kids. So there are no more Chris'.

My husband have chosen names for our daughters that are not common, but we didn't make them up. We wanted names that would stand out on a resume someday, why not give them every advantage we can? Also, I wouldn't want to give my child a name that is super popular because I wouldn't want them to be one of 5 Graces or 5 Michaels in their classes in school. I want my kids to feel special.

It actually is so their children to be unique. Or maybe even so they will like their name more. I really would want to have a name that everyone else has.
