Absolutely. State it clearly in your invitation that "absolutely no gifts are required, please bring only yourselves, your presence IS the gift ".

Yes it is o.k.Just tell them to come for cake and ice cream. If the guest brings a gift, say "Thank you so much," and write the requisite thank you notes.
You can always give the gift(s) to charity.
Your daughter is 1 and will not remember gifts anyway. She will have fun with all the attention and cake!

As long as you let the guests know, ahead of time, it is fine to request they do NOT bring a gift. After all, she is your daughter and your wishes should be honored.

it is perfectly fine to include a request on the invitations asking guests not to bring gifts, but many will feel obligated nonetheless. perhaps you should consider asking attendees to make a donation to a charitable organization of your choosing...[your local S.P.C.A. or animal shelter, the Red Cross, your community food pantry or homeless shelter, Locks of Love,... the list goes on and on]. this way, your daughter doesn't get unecessary gifts, and you're building a foundation for teaching her to help others.
hope this helps.

I would say when you ask people to come tell them all that a gift is not necessary you just want them to share in the celebration.

It's fine to ask that of all, just don't single any one person out unless you do so very carefully. Saying you don't have to bring anything but yourself would be okay as it wouldn't make them feel left out or embarassed. Just do so casually and you will be fine.

It's okay to ask, but I doubt anyone would show up empty handed to a one year old's bday party.

It's perfectly acceptable. You're the hosting family, you make the rules. However, expect to receve many in spite of your asking.

Yes, that is an appropriate request. If they insist, perhaps ask them to donate a toy to a children's hospital.
