and it ended up having fleas and ear mites when you got it, would you call the person you bought it from immediately or would you wait 3 weeks?

I know someone who bought a cat, and she said it had fleas and ear mites. I told her to call the person and tell them, but she didn't. She waited 3 weeks, and the only reason she told the person is because she got mad at her for something else.

I told her that now the person she bought it from will just say that the cat got them from the new owners 15 cats.

The fact that she waited 3 weeks AND has 15 cats already kind of concerns me.

yes you are right, waited too late to say something. I would have called the very day I had picked up the cat especially if money was involved. Does this cat have papers on it as a special breed? The best thing to do is get the cat to a vet and get treatments started. The vets have a prescription for ear mites, and for the fleas, buy advantage for fleas and ticks. Don't forget to spray flea and tick spray where the cat beds down as the fleas tend to jump off and lay their eggs.

Yep, pretty much what you said--If I was the seller of the cat, I'd have a 1 week health guarantee, that's it--it's on the receipt and there's the date.

Yuck...that's a LOT of cats...in fact, that's beyond "a lot"--that is WAAAAY TOO MANY!!
Does the Health Department know about these people!?!?!

SHe already has too many cats!! And she should have told the breeder about the health issues right away and should not have waited. Its her issue to deal with now.

yea I would probably let them know so they can treat the other cats for fleas not to return the cat because it has fleas.

yeah you really have to say those kinds of things right away. i hope she's not expecting the former owner to pay for any treatments because i believe in the eyes of the law she's acted too late and as new owner is fully responsible anyways

i bought a kitten, 4 days later it had to be put to sleep along with over $200 in vet bills in 4 days...they refused to pay for any of the bills but offered me a new kitten, so i took him, got home and he had earmites, i called them right away and they actually went to the store and bought earmite meds for me, but then i found out later he had a stool parasite...that they wouldnt pay for...best bet for your friend is to get pet insurance (it sounds dumb to some) but its very cheap and can save you alot of money in the long run.
