I am thinking here of schemes to offset the emission of carbon dioxide involved in an activity (for example an air flight) by reducing emmission of carbon elsewhere (for example by helping finance a wind power or biomass scheme)

If you buy the offset, the net carbon dioxide emissions are indeed reduced if the financed energy source displaces some of the load from a CO2 emitting source. So, it is more or less an investment scheme for alternative energies, which I suppose would generally be considered a "good idea".

Nevertheless, there can come a point where buying the offset does little to reduce CO2 emissions (eg: when you have displaced much of the coal or oil fired power plants). Granted, that would probably take a large amount of offset investment, but it still can happen.

So, a better idea is to change the way energy is used so the energy produced from the offset investment is actually used on a large scale. The big area for improvement right now is the transportation sector, which uses a sizeable portion of the oil production. Developing a quality electric vehicle along with buying the offsets can produce a much better effect where both the source is renewable and the end user takes advantage of the renewable source. Whether or not the CO2 emissions are dangerous, this scheme can still reduce the need for resources that cannot last in the long term.

Quit trying to fix what doesn't need to be fix ted. Measure the CO2 what u get?? u will find about 1 or 2 parts per million ,where is all the CO2? Well u are only looking at one half the system. The Green plants are doing a beautiful job, they take in CO2 and put out oxygen, what more u think u can do.Mother nature has it under control u trying to kill the green plants??
If they were right and the CO2 had increased as much as they want u to believe people would be dieing.

If there was a way to reduce what carbons are in the air, that would be better.

Yeah they have have been given some rather cool recommendations for this city. I fairly like the utilization of photograph voltaic potential (it relatively is unquestionably abundant in Abu Dhabi) to potential the indoors maximum delivery automobiles and ban inner combustion engine automobiles. additionally the reuse of eighty% of the water. great cool. I merely ask your self how plenty the form expenditures would be for the city. possibly notably vast, yet nonetheless, great cool recommendations.
