What?? Are you crazy? The men I know that have gotten them care enough about their wives to allow someone with a knife near their most prized posession!!! Its simpler for a man than it is a woman and has no lasting effects for him. I had my tubes tied, which requires general anesthetic and two incisions, comes with days of recovery time AND has screwed up monthly things for me SO bad that they are nearly intolerable (and they never were like that before the tubal). Men get it done in a dr's office with local anesthetic and go home as soon as its done. Its also more likely to be reversible than a tubal is for a woman. I think anyone that would view a man doing this as selfish must be an extremely self centered person herself, I can't even imagine viewing it this way. You must have a very sad outlook on men. Just because a guy doesn't want a bunch of kids running around doesn't mean he only wants to use women for sex! Kids are a lifetime commitment and add up to a whole lot more than just sex! Do you also think women that use birth control pills are only using men for sex?

I don't think its selfish, I knew a couple who had 6 kids and did not want anymore, but it was against the ladies religion to get her tubes tied because she believed tht u were to accept all the babies God blessed u with. So because he was not a part of her religion, he had a vasectomy done.
After 6 kids, I don't think it was done out of selfishness.

Are you for real? I take it from your question that you want babies but have gotten yourself involved with someone who has had a vasectomy and is, therefore, now a Sunkist orange (all juice and no seed). If that is the case, and the inability to father a child is a deal-breaker, you should find someone else. As for whether getting a vasectomy is selfish, if he doesn't want kids then he is perfectly within his rights not to have them.

I am scheduled to have one done next month and selfishness was never part of it. I have 1 girl and newborn twin boys and that is it for me.
I decided to have it done so that my wife would not have to go through the difficult times a woman goes through when they have their tubes tied. Is caring for my wife selfish, I don't think so!!

I have one, and it was so I did not father any more kids....I am too old to be raising anymore......it is also a much better way to have sex.....you do not have to worry about having kids, and making a mistake.......not if he does it before he gets married, or earlier, then he doesn't want to have kids.....that is responsible act......though the women that want kids would be greatly disappointed

If we continue on with that thought then women only want to have sex for child bearing and that would also only be selfish!!

No, not everyone wants childeren, and those who have them might not want a litter...I think if women have to go through child birth that the men should have to get their sack zapped...it's only fair

When a married couple decides not to have any more children, sometimes they choose to have the man get a vasectomy.

I think they are being responsible. By having the surgery there is no worry of an unwanted pregnancy.
