What I don't understand is how people justify being anti-choice by saying "It's murder and its wrong." It's murder to them because their man in a funny hat said it was. To a lot of people, a fetus in the first trimester is a bunch of cells. That's it.
To look at the abortion issue as black and white is damning. There are plenty of people that are in the middle. I'm sure someone has said since I've been writing this something along the lines of "only in the case of rape or incest." Some might say abortions should be mandatory for some people, but that's a different issue altogether.
And the thing is, being pro-choice doesn't mean you want everyone to go get an abortion, and it doesn't mean you support everyone going out and having promiscuous sex. The concept of souls and divine plans are not something that everyone believes in, therefore it should not be forced.
So what it comes down to:
KEEP YOUR BIBLE OUT OF MY UTERUS!!!

To murder or not to murder, that is the question. So what about the right of the baby growing inside. It has nothing to do with my religious beliefs. A fetus has a full nervous system at 9 weeks. Do you think it feels pain at its death. Abortion is legal until 3 months. At 4 weeks it has a head, neck, trunk, arm buds and leg buds and a heart. It also has eyes, ears and a mouth. At five weeks it has fingers and toes. The neural tube develops into a brain. At the end of the fifth week the head is erect and it has an umbilical cord. At six weeks it has a liver and a diaphragm and cerebral halves coming up to the forehead. At nine weeks they can tell you if it is a boy or girl. At 11 weeks, the fetus has blood and a spleen and bone marrow. It has lymphocytes and a immune system in the lymph nodes and thymus.
Then at twelve weeks somebody comes along who thinks like you and kills this innocent baby. When if they had waited for six more months they could give up this little guy for adoption and make some couple very happy.
Just a little note from World News- France has so many abortions that they have a 1.7 negative birth rate. This means more babies are dieing than are being born. But their population is growing. How? Because foreigners are moving in and having their non-french babies.

Ok. Lets leave Religion out of it for now. Lets look at what man himself says. A nonreligious man is the biggest hypocrit there is.
State Laws on Abortion, in regards to Funeral Home Directors, by: The Department of Human Services.
It is wrong according too man and Christianity.
1.) When a fetus weighs 11.3 ounces, or 20 weeks of term, whichever comes first. The baby dies, it has to have a Birth Certification and Death Certificate.
2.) When a fetus is less than 350 Grams and dies, it needs a Fetus Death Certificate.
3.) A fetus/baby is a live human being after it meets the above criteria, according too law.
4.) a nonlife needs no Death Certificate. [ It had to be a Life, to be declared dead.]
5.) A baby is a live human being even according too man, and will remain so, until man's law changes.
6.) By man's own definition as too Life: You tell me who is contradicting themselves.
7.) A fetus/baby is a live human being at conception, according to God, and will remain that way until YOU or someone else proves with the Word of GOD, that it isn't.
Good Question.

Good question. I am pro-life. I am an atheist. I am not at all religious. I am all for freedom of choice.
But you are missing the point here. You can do ANYTHING you want with your body. That is your right. But, by "choosing" to have an abortion, you are ending the life of another human being, that is WRONG, and noone has the right to take another's life away.
So if I'm not religious, where does this idea come from for me? It is purely scientific. When the sperm and egg combine and start to multiply into a human being, it is alive and CANNOT be killed. (murder). That's all.
I am 100% in favor of women's rights, equal rights for all.
EQUAL RIGHTS FOR THE UNBORN CHILD AS WELL.
How can you end his or her life without their consent? That is why you do not have the choice to do that. And that's all I am saying. It isn't any of my business what you do to your OWN body, but when it involves another innocent life that you created and then decide to kill, it is everyone's business. That's why we have laws and prisons.
It's just like you don't have the choice to kill your baby at 1 month old. Why is it that you want to have that opportunity to murder him or her a couple of months earlier? What's the difference between in the womb and out? Nothing really.
Thank you. I appreciate the question.

I don't consider abortion to be murder, but for those that do, how about this then. Are you willing to adopt all the unwanted children that are going to be negelcted and abused because abortion was not a choice? I'd rather not have the child in the world at all than a child who is severly neglected (which is likely to happens ince the parents didn't want him/her).
I, like the topic creator, think choice is the best route. I wouldn never ever want to abort a baby, I'd rather have the child and give it to one of the millions trying to adopt, but that is my view.
Consider it this way then, a parasite or virus is alive. It is also in our bodies. Thus is taking medication to be rid of sickness murder? It is alive and inside a body and most importantly, it is UNWANTED by the person carrying it. Is it murder to take antibiotics then? You may say it's human rather than a virus, but long before that is it more or less an infection.
I do disagree 100% with partial birth abortions, I hate to think people still do those, but once again I would never do it and it's not my right to play God. In my opinion, and coming from a religious standpoint, God should be the one to make the call of whether it's right or wrong, it is not for any human to say. Would you play God?

Hullo AtheistMom.
I very much appreciate the woman who chose to have her baby and asked my husband and me to be his parents.
Even she admits her choice began nine months before the birth of the boy who became my son.
Yes, I'd be willing to adopt again, but the hoops the government has for an adoptive parent (to say nothing of the expense and intrusion) are dauntingly frustrating. It can take years to go throught the process and I am not getting any younger.
Why is it my business what other people do with their bodies? When it directly impacts the future of our country/world that makes it my business. When I know many women (several being good friends) who excercised their "right to choose" and now, many years later are still haunted by the what ifs that were not addressed at the time of their choosing, it is my business.
I find it interesting that many pro-choice people will say, "It takes a village to raise a child." But are dismayed when the village thinks it has a right to help guide the "adult.

We have the choice to conceive or not, not a lot of people get pregnant without having sex. If you do not want to parent a child, do not have sex.... if you feel you might explode from not having sex, there are thousands for forms of protection available and if you STILL get pregnant, have a baby. Keep it or put it up for adoption if you dont think you can raise it but that baby is NOT your body, it is a completely other person that no one has the right to kill.
If there is something wrong with you that you will die carrying the baby, then thats a whole different story but, every year there are less than 50 abortions performed in the country due to the health of the mother. Even less performed because someone was raped because it is really hard to conceive from rape (but not impossible) but tens of thousands of abortions are performed in this country every year simply because the mother doesn't feel like parenting. Make your choices before you lay down.

The issue is not just about your choice but the choice of the fetus. Where does life begin - at conception - or at the birth- or at sometime in between. Then once you can figure out when life begins... when does that life have rights of its own. Then lets bring in the religous aspect and there is no answer - except make up your own mind by getting the facts. Is a baby in the womb that smiles and reacts to outside noises not a life - and therefor is at the mercy of its mother to determine whether it lives or dies or should the government step in and protect that life and say it does have the right to live. Dont get the issue confused with its a woman's choice... who speaks for the baby?

Perhaps the Pro life patrol would like to finance these women and potential children for 18+ years and provide direct emotional, financial and educational support for them instead of enough hot air to comprise the top layer of planet Earth.
I personally think without abortion, there would be a greater drain and strain on our Nation's welfare system and related resources. There would also be women hospitalized for infection, sepsis, and trauma from rigged abortions. Some may die, but does this right any wrong? God gave man free will, even if that free will was to have an abortion. So, all you bible thumpers need to check yourselves. God is the judge, jury and executioner of Man's soul.
I personally would not have an abortion unless my life or the baby's life was in danger, but no matter what anyone preaches or says, stupid people are going to make stupid mistakes. Would you rather these women be forced into involuntary motherhood and a baby or child dies a fate worse than a suction abortion at 8 weeks...how about death by drowning in a car at the age of 4? Or roasted in the oven as a little 2 month old baby? What about the abuse?
It's their decision to make, and people will FIND a way to do what they will even if it turns illegal, which it will not. So suck it up and drive on, and MYOB. Life is easier that way.

The problem is that religious nutters have arbitrarily decided that a fetrilized egg gets a soul at the moment of conception and is therefor a person and so abortion is murder.
The whole thing stems from religious dualism. They simply can not be reasoned with as long as they hold such a position. The only way to maintain our freedoms is to deconvert as many of them as possible, but lawyers in particular, since judges and legislators are predominantly lawyers.
