You so funny...I've been in the navy for the last 10 years and know a lot of troops that find the war in Iraq wrong. I know quite a few that spoke out about how wrong it was and got slapped down for it. We knew that it was poorly planned and too rosy. When the former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff went before congress and told them that we needed more than twice the number of troops than what Rumsfeld said, he was forced out a year early.

We support the troops then and now. What we don't support are the lies and the mistakes that got us into this mess.

THe only ones who hate and embolden the terrorists are the ones all for the war and show an unflagging support to an Administration that still supports a failing foreign policy.

No you are not right. In fact you are a fool.

Do you jump for joy when yet another young American is blown into tiny little pieces by a roadside bomb in Iraq? Do you laugh when you see the flag draped coffins? Why do you support the war, that should be the question.

The troops are doing a magnificent job, and none of this is their fault. They are in the wrong place for the wrong reasons, and Bush's policy does not make this world a safer place.

I am no pacifist but I do think that this war is crap. Why is it treason to protest the squandering of our brave troops lives? It is a betrayal by the government - that is the treason.

Why do you right wing @ssholes think you own the country anyway?

No.
One thing that the administration did [all administrations go through this, repub or dem] is having to "sell" a war to the american people. To help this, they get folks like Rupert Murdock [big boss at FOX news] to run stories and opinion editorials that spread this concept - that somehow if you don't support the administrations' war that you're a traitor.

Think about that hard for a second. In a country that's supposed to be a democracy, the only control we have over anything are the voices that oppose it-

Think of it like this - you have muscles in your arm that pull your forearm closed, and muscles that work at the same time to pull it open. Without those opposing forces, you couldn't use your arm, it would only go one way, and uncontrollably.

Don't listen to Fox news on this. Go ask a warm-blooded American. Alamost all the people who disagree with the war still love our troops- they're our children, after all [unless you happen to be in congress] and we love them for being there and doing what they've been ordered to do. In no way does dissent minimize the sacrifice.

If the administration tried to bring anybody up on treason charges for disagreeing with the war, then we REALLY WOULD be in trouble.

We are the most powerful country in the world, and that means we have to be really careful about continuing to ask at all times - are we doing the right thing? Is this the best way to protect ourselves against attacks like 9/11? By us simple folk talking about it and debating, we're fighting too, here at home. We just have to keep it real, it's a lot more important than who's team wins the pennant this year. It's not a sporting event, it's life and death.

When times get tough, you stick to the plan. The consitution is our plan, and it says that opposing viewpoints are good, they keep us in balance. I'm going with that idea. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, it's good enough for me.

I will be honest with you, I do not fully support the war in Iraq but I do not hate our troops. The troops are there doing what they are sent to do. I am proud of our troops and I have a few friends in the military, one is getting ready to go over and I support them fully. They are not the ones who chose the war nor did they decide how to handle it. Therefore, I do not agree with the idea that just because people do not support the war that they hate the troops.

No.. you have to look at it from all points of view.. just because someone doesn't support the idea of war does not mean that they are anti-American or that they hate the troops. The men and women who serve our country should be commended and applauded for the work they do to keep our country a safe and free one. It's not about the troops themselves but more about the war itself. War isn't always the best answer.. it fact it rarely is.

Hate? Some do, but I do not believe that most do.

But the effects are no less doleful. By fighting against the war, by undermining our resolve for victory, by showing the terrorists and insurgents that we have little resolve and a weakness when faced with adversity, they are actually causing our troops more problems.

All this fighting against our efforts has the effect, like it did in Vietnam, of emboldening and encouraging our enemies. This results in more GI casualties, and aids the recruiting of more insurgents/terrorists.

I have not heard that at all. You couldn't be farther from truth. Many people are against the war, but support the troops. Most people I know want the troops to come home. They don't see it as anti-support. Folks just want the troops home safe and sound.

Your so wrong!

I hate the people who said it was alright for the innocent lives to be lost in such a stupid war!

And if your statement is true than i would hate my brother!
Do i hate him? NO! I love him so much and for him to be over in Iraq was the worst time of my life i couldn't even enjoy my birthday as the day before he wrote us a letter to say his base had just been bombed and one of his friends was shot in the neck and killed!!! He went into this war leaving his wife and 5 month old boy at home not knowing if he will ever see them again!
He is the bravest man i have ever met and i hate it when people write stuff like this and don't get there facts straight first!

I believe that the war in Iraq should not continue. That doesn't mean that I hate our troops. It means that I hate our current president. I wish that all our soldiers would come home already and that we (the US) should stay out of other countries problems. I have a brother in the military, do you think I want to see him go to a war that is pointless? I bet you don't even dislike Bush, do you?

Anti-war usually doesn't mean anti-troops. The troops are serving their country, but the government is exploiting a group of patriotic and brave individuals. The nature of the Armed forces is that they have to do what the government tells them to, but I believe that right now the government is taking advantage of the troops who have made tremendous sacrifices.
That's the way I explin myself: Pro-troops and anti-commander-in-chief.
