Buy a dictionary, then choose one word a week. Learn the definition and use it in a sentence. Some say do this with one word a day, but I would not be able to remember Monday's word on Friday, so I say 1 word per week.
Good luck and I'm glad you want to expand your mind, not to many people have the drive to do so!

Simply by reading and looking up words you do not recognize the meaning of in a dictionary as you read. Also try using a Thesaurus to use different words that have the same meaning when you write.

Buy a dictionary. Read it. Find a word a day. Use that word as many times during the day when it is appropriate.

Start in the dictionary. Pick one new word every few days. Use each word in it's proper context in sentences repeatedly thru out the day and learn how to spell it.

Read a lot, and when you don't understand a word, look it up in the dictionary instead of skipping it.
Get a "word a day" calendar.
