I have a really bad back and am constantly in pain. Does anyone have any suggestions on some pain killers to ask my dr about? I've heard that Lortab and Soma work very well together.

What kind of pain? I mean is it muscular, neurological or in the joints? If its muscular then try getting a massage. I'm a massage therapist and have helped a lot of people with back pain. If it's a nerve being compressed by a tight muscle then massage can also help release some pressure. If it's disc problems then Massage and chiropractics make a good combination>>>>the massage relaxes the muscles which makes the adjustment more effective.
All pain medicines do is cover up the problem although sometimes they can relax the body enough that it can heal it's self, cause that's when the body heals, when its relaxed. But why would you want to take prescriptions that are only going to damage your liver and possibly create more problems down the line? Just my opinion.
Also if its a degenerative disorder then you should probably see a neurosurgeon before too much damage is done.

If you have chronic back pain, what you need is not a specific medicine but a consult with a pain clinic. No other physician is as qualified to deal with the specific issue of pain, regardless of cause. Treatment will likely include medicines but may also involve physical therapy, chiropractic, massage, TENS units and psychological help.

They often use medications that are not specifically pain killers but work on the pain in different ways. I had sever pain from damaged vetebrae, nerves and disks in my neck and an antiseizure medication worked better than strong narcotics.
You best hope for the safest, most effective treament is with a pain speciality. clinic.

Lortab and Soma can be a deadly combination.

If you get these medications make sure NOT to take them together. It would depend on the strength of the Lortab, but they can make you fall asleep and sometimes it will slow your breathing to a point of stopping.

Your doctor will most likely not prescribe these medications together anyway. You are better off just asking for one med to begin with, and then if it doesn't help, ask for the other. If taken willy nilly you could cause alot of dammage.

Listen, don't go to your regular doctor for back pain go see a Chiropractor. They are specialists for back problems and indeed many other ailments that come with a mis-aligned spin and neck. There are many ailments that can be cured simply by having regular adjustments. It took me a while to convince my Fiancee to give it a try...she had her hands diagnosed as arthritic 10 years ago by a doctor who didn't even take x-rays, after a couple months of regular adjustments at our Chiropractor her pain in her hands is completely gone. The spin is the nerve centre for your entire body and a pinched nerve in your back can cause all kinds of problems including of course back pain. It has helped me in so many ways that it would take to much time to write up here but I'm so confident that it works I recommend it every time I see someone on Yahoo! Answers with back trouble and if you go talk to a Chiropractor and give it a shot you will be doing the same in a short time. Good luck in what ever you decide, I know how crippling back pain can be.

Well first off you dont ask your doctor for painkillers--it makes you sound like a dope head. Second you go in and explain whats wrong and let the doctor decide what needs to be done for your back. You might need to have test done and such......

Dolonuerobion. This will do wonders.

If even then the pain is still unbearable you may have to go to more violent drugs.

Advil, and sleeping on a hard mattress, sleep on the opposite side that it hurts. If you can't find a hard mattress, you can try putting your mattress on the floor for one night and see how it turns out.
