I suppose for some people it just seems logical that:

Some 12 year old girl has a virgin birth.

Her new born baby is the master of the universe.

Jesus looks like a normal person, acts like a normal person, and for the most part everybody thinks he IS a normal person, but he is really the master of the universe.

Although he is God and could of made everything so much better he decides to die on the cross. And everything seems the same as before.

God's own apostles don't fare any better, they all suffer equally horrible deaths.

So everyone is supposed to look at that and think, "Of course, Jesus is the Son of God." In truth, if it weren't for faith, there would be no reason to regard Jesus as divine.

Because we are not born into this world knowing what to believe, we are taught what to believe by other people, that is why there are so many different religions. So many Christian beliefs are so far fetched to the point of unbelievable. People were more gullible when the bible was written because the world wasn't as smart, but for people today to continue believing in such nonsense is the same as people believing in the lochness monster, or believing in the powers of the egyptian gods. I'm not saying there isn't a God, but I think people are more ignorant by listening to other ignorant people preach and that christianity is no more than a joke and about as much of a cult as scientology.

but there is an equation:
believe in god+he really exists=you win, after life
believe in god+he doesn't exist=you tie, no after life
don't believe in god+he doesn't exist=you tie, no after life
don't believe in god+he does exist=you lose, bad after life

the belief of God has nothing to do with people not wanting to take moral responsibility, it has to do more so with education and fear after life. And Jesus was supposidly the son of God not God himself so I think it makes no difference whether he existed or not, God makes the difference not Jesus. well unless you are Christian and also believe in oppressing women, other races, and that innocent pure of heart people around the world will go to Hell just because they never even heard of jesus let alone believe in him.

If I told you my girlfriend was going to have the son of God, the world would lock me up in a mental institute.

i'm not saying i don't believe in Jesus or God, I'm just answering the question on why people might not believe in Jesus.

There are many reasons why I do not believe in Jesus but here is a very good reason why I disdain Christianity in general. I quote, from one of the answers listed here,

"Because believing in Jesus would, among other things, challenge us to adhere to a moral standard of the highest sort."

This attitude is extremely arrogant and self serving! It negates all those like Gandhi, a Hindu, who lived lives that were a testament to moral standards of the highest sort. This type of attitude is ego based and attempts to elevate Christians above the many who live highly moral lives but are non Christians.

Personally, I long for the day when all of us can look each other in the eye and judge based on the content of our character rather than what faith based path we follow.

See it's not wether or not people believe in Jesus because everyone believes he existed but it's about having a personal relationship with the one and true living God I say living God because God is alive and is is working through and for people everyday that choose to have this personal relationship with Him .See when you have this personal relationship with Him he teaches you the things that are a mystery to those who don't have relationship. He teaches you who He is and who you are and your purpose in life. So it's not that people don't believe because Jesus himself said the demons even believe. People just don't have a relationship with him most likely because of hurts or bad experiences about god or plainly they just like living the way they are.Sad but true!!

Cause I see no more reason to believe in your God than I see to believe in Zeus, and I've seen no good evidence that the events that happened in the gospels even took place in the real world.

EDIT: It's rather entertaining looking at some of the answers believers put on here as to why they think people don't believe, LOL They need to get their heads out of their precious book and open their eyes look around them a bit more. lol

Why do people believe in Jesus?

He isn't the son of God, he was a man.

i do believe him as a prophet and Son of maryam, For God there is no match in this whole universe. he isnt son of God. sins can be washed by doing good deeds, rather than thinking Jesus died for your sins.

this is what i believe. (not to offend u)

I believe there was a man named Jesus that was born. I don't think he was all that he is made out to be by the Christians though. And if he is the son of God then why do you all worship him? God is to be the only one worshipped.

I don't believe because there's only scarce evidence he existed at all and there is absolutely no proof he was the son of god or that he was able to cleanse me of my sins.

Assuming he did exist as a human, I renounce him as a savior and call him a liar and a charlatan, I say that he was a lunatic who believed in gods that do not exist and claimed to be more than what he was -- a man, nothing more.

His blood is not on my hands, the responsibility of his death is not on my shoulders. I, jsut as did Pilate, wash my hands entirely of the man. If some man 2000 years ago wanted to kill himself, so be it, I had no part in it.

I believed he lived and was a great teacher to many people. He was also horribly and wrongfully prosecuted. I, however, am a buddhist. I long gave up the idea that someone else died for our sins because to believe that requires blind faith. I also do not believe he was the son of god for I cannot either deny or accept the idea of god.

Believe nothing.
No matter where you read it,
Or who said it,
Even if I have said it,
Unless it agrees with your own reason
And your own common sense.
-Buddha-

"Be ye lamps unto yourselves, be a refuge to yourselves. Hold fast to
Truth as a lamp; hold fast to the Truth as a refuge. Look not for a refuge in anyone beside yourselves. And those, who shall be a lamp unto themselves, shall betake themselves to no external refuge, but holding fast to the Truth as their lamp, and holding fast to the Truth as their refuge, they shall reach the topmost height."
