You should push yourself to a limit where you can't do anymore. That way, you will know your limit and push yourself to that point every day or other day. Then when you feel that becomes easy. Try to do about 10-15 more a day until you get in ridiculous shape. For pushups, you should strive for 100 and situps at least 50 good ones.
Try joggin or some sort of sport (basketball, tennis) where you're constantly moving, as well. Hope that helps.

Start slowly and build up slowly. I recommend you start by walking 20 minutes every day, followed by 20 pushups and 20 crunches. Resist the temptation to do more. After 3 weeks of this, increase the walk to 30 minutes and add 5 reps to the exercises. There are some pretty good exercise routines here:

It really is different for everyone. Start out with something like 10-25 of each a day, and then work your way up when you feel comfortable with what you're doing.
Running is also a great way to get in to shape : stretches like sit-ups, push-ups, etc. don't give you much of a cardiovascular work out. So running is great. But running on a treadmill isn't always fun. Just run as far as you feel is good for you each day. Try running outside of where you live. It's really boring to run on a treadmill, and hard to get into it.

I would try joining a gym or even the local YMCA. When you join a gym they have training sessions usually included with your membership for a few sessions.
If you do not want to put out money for a gym membership try swimming, I have heard many times from both trainers and doctors that it is the best exercise. It is low impact on joints but exercises your whole body. Good luck to you!

If you are really out of shape, then start gently by walking. Progressively walk faster till you are almost jogging. Then you can start with mild resistance training using light dumbells. Don't do sit ups instead do crunches. Sit ups are hard on the lower back especially if you have not been training.

Start walking 5 days a week, get a treadmill (with a wide belt) or join a gym. Walking fast is great. I have been using the treadmill for 7 weeks (5 days a week). I started seeing results at 3 weeks. Great for energy, and stress relief.

Try walking! It's something that you do every day so you aren't likely to strain anything, it lets you get out and meet people, and it's cheap. Just put on a comfortable pair of shoes and you're good to go.
If you can afford it, consider going to a gym. Most of them will include a starting-off consultation with a trainer who can point you towards the best ways to meet your fitness goals.

Start off small, excercising for 5-10 minutes each day, doing basic excercises (stretches, jump n jacks, sit ups, push ups, etc.). As you go on, increase the time and number of excercises that u do.

start by walking, then progress to a slow jog, and eventuly you will be able to go fast, how ever your body my be resistant to losing weight to this method, if you dont eat properly, as for sit ups and push ups do them before you jog, do as many as you can and find a good number and add 5 to it every week, i also sugguest sidestrattle hops(jumpin jacks) and streaching, even if you dont think you aer going to use that muscle group streach it, or you will know about it
