Would a beagle get on with an 18mth labrador? Is it a good family dog? Do they like children? Name suggestion.

i have a four year old beagle. we also have 2 oth dogs, they all get along fine, but when you feed them put them in 2 different places. beagles love food and will take it form the puppy. af far as the family thing goes... my cosins come over all the tim (they range from 2 to 10) and the beagle puts up with everything they do to him lol. he love kids. i think they are great. but if you do get on i would ask that you check your local shelter... there are tons of beagles that really need homes. try looking around at www.petfinder.com it is a great resorce
hope this helps

It all depends on the dogs whether or not they would get along, but I have a 3 yr old beagle and a 8 month old lab and they love eachother...the lab pulls the beagle around by her collar, but they both seem to like it.
As far as I know beagles are good family dogs...but you might want to keep an eye on them around children, some beagles tend to be a bit nippy if you touch them the wrong way.
My beagles name is Abby...my friend has a beagle named Mooch...it all depends on their personality...they pretty much name themselves if you are around them a lot and watch them. Good luck (if you get a beagle)!

I say it depends on the dog. I have 2 beagles that are total opposites. They both do get along with other dogs and children, one better than the other. Though neither would hurt a child or other dog, one is much more tolerant than the other. I have friends that have Beagles. Generally, Beagles are laid back.

I have beagle/lab mix and he is awesome other than the fact that the beagle side of him barks up a storm and doesn't like the water. They are good dogs if you are going to train them not to bark and to come back when called. They will take off after a squirrel and you probably won't get him back for a while. Its a good family dog if you train it well. Also, train him to be around children to get him used to them.

Yip Go for a Beagle. I have a 4 year old male called Hooch and he is a total sweetheart. I have 3 children and he expects to get treated as my 4th (which often happens). I think a lot of it has to do with personality as well as breed and Hooch is the house clown. I have had dogs all my life and this is the most loving, funny, cute, adorable beagle ever.
P.S beware Beagles are runners, as soon as he breaks free he is gonna run like the wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beagle is a nasty little dog. They need a lot of toys, lot of attention and lot of nerves!! They get along with all other dogs when they're little, but when they grow up they want to be in charge! They LOVE people, especially children.
I have a beagle, Phoenix, soon to be 3 and I can't imagine my life without him. Look, if you want a pet, get something else, but if you want an another family member, get a beagle.

No I don't, but am around them a lot at my shelter. Beagles are great dogs, but it's good to do research on them before getting one. They are very scent driven and can tend to bark a lot. Great with children and usually get on well with other dogsn, though it will depend on each individual animal.

My favorite Beagle we've ever had at the shelter was named Rosie, so I vote for that!

I own a soft toy beagle - does that count?!!

But seriously - I would have liked a real one, but decided not to.
Beagles are often working dogs and love to live in the country, say on a farm. If you can provide this then great! If not, another breed might suit you better.

Beagles are the best family dog you could ever get. They get along with all animals if you raise them together. Beagles are the best with kids.

I have a beagle-boxer mix and a lab-chow mix as well as a cat. They all get along great and my dogs love children. The two dogs are inseparable.
