There are two stories, but they are not in the Qur'an. They come from the Hadiths, which are auxilliary stories about Mohammad's life, from which Muslims derive certain moral code and traditions.
One story says he was poisoned by a group of Jews, the other says he was poisoned by one Jewish woman. In both stories, Mohammad and his new Islamic army had just attacked and conquered the city of Khaibar. As a "sign of peace", Mohammad and his Islamic troops were offered a sheep which was tainted with poison. When asked why they / she poisoned Mohammad, they / she said "If you're really a prophet, the poison won't harm you".
Here is an excerpt from the Hadiths according to Sahih Bukhari...
(Volume 5, Book 59, Number 713:)
Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet in his ailment in which he died, used to say, "O 'Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaibar, and at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison."
Mohammad became deathly ill in his 50s. He apparently believed this illness was directly caused by the poison. Some people deduce that Mohammad was not a prophet, because even Mohammad believed he was dying as a result of the "poison test" given to him by people of Jewish descent.
These are of course just stories. Even Muslims will tell you that the validity and accuracy of the Hadiths are a matter of debate and speculation. In other words, the Hadiths are fallible and cannot be relied upon as factual.

He did not follow his own rules, seems he made some us as he felt the urge.
