And the vaccine for small pox came from cow pox a disease caught from cows (but was usually not fatal). We catch chicken pox from people with chicken pox (and when we are old it might resurface with a vengence, but we call it shingles then).

I've heard that it was the weak (as in we use the term 'chicken' for people who are weak) form of "the pox", the more deadly small pox. I've heard that the name resembled some vegetable which resembled the pox pustules. Whereever the name came from, we get the disease from people who have or carry the disease.

unfortunatly it is, we also get goose bumps from small geese and pimples come from pimps.
