Get hold of The Dog's Trust.
be aware that animal shelters will want to inspect your property to make sure you can take good care of an animal.

I've recommended this site to a few people now, but I think it applies to you as much as anyone.

Try www.dogpages.org.uk

They have details of dogs needing rescue of all sorts of breeds from all over the uk. They have details also of loads of different rescues, whether all-breed (eg Dogs Trust) or breed specific. Have a look. If you don't find a dog through there that you think would be worth asking about, you can post your own details up. That way, if anyone from a rescue finds a dog they think would be suitable for you, they can contact you via the website.

Good Luck!

Also I might add - different rescues have different rehoming requirements (as well as some dogs having different requirements than others). Some rescues MIGHT still allow you to rehome a dog if you work full-time, as long as you can make provision for your new friend to be let out during the day.

You will be given a home-check. This is only to check that your home is suitable for the dog you are taking on, eg well fenced if necessary.

Good on you for considering a rescue!

Do a search on the net for local rescues and check out your local rspca...also check local press as they may have some info and dont give up looking!there are too many homeless pooches out there!..if you use a rescue centre they will do a home check and expect you to have an enclosed garden and will not accept you if you work more than part time /if everyone is out all day and the dog would be left for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time..We have a rescue dog from rspca and be aware that it can be hard work as some dogs come with behavioural problems due to ill treatment.Alfie our rescue dog suffered from terrible seperation anxiety for 18 months after we got him and it was very hard work! but hes the model family dog now and we also have a pup to keep him company and 2 kittens!!

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary at Edenfield - get on the motorway as if heading towards Ramsbottom - come off at Rammy and take the first exit - at the top of the road turn left again - at the roundabout turn right - Bleakholt is about 2miles up on the right - its well sign posted.

Switzerland!
I have seen them on the TV, big buggers they are, called St Bernard, and they find you after an avalanche, and get this, they have Brandy in a little barrel around their necks for you to drink. No coke though, but loads of ice so its not that bad!

Well done, try "jay gee" dog sanctuary, I'm not sure if there is one in your area though, sorry.

Check out the following adoption sites:

petfinder.com
pets911.com
1-800-save-a-pet.com
nextdaypets.com

Many of these sites let you search for a pet by city name or zip code.

Good luck! And thank you for opting to get a shelter dog!

Sorry I don't know, I live in Wolverhampton.
I just wanted to say good on you for going for a rescue dog.
I work with rescue dogs and it is great when we find them new homes.
Good luck!
