If you're working here you'll need to register with the UK tax authorities. You'll need to pay tax here, but make sure its not too much! You should be able to get a certain amount of pay "tax free" and, if I were you, I'd try to get "in" on the National Health Service. They will give you the infromation, but might wait until asked. Ask them:
- How do I get a tax code? (That is the tax free pay)
- How do I get a National Insurance Number?
- How do I get a National Health Registration?
- Which pubs serve the best pint (you are required by law to drink Real Ale now!)
Why not just turn up at the French embassy and ask them what to do? Also ask the accountant at work, he'll at least know who to ask. And "human resources".
The important things:
- Don't order steak! I like my steak like the French, rare. You cannot get a rare steak in England
- The best pints are "London Pride" and "Spitfire". Other good pints are served by "handpull" but DO NOT go anywhere near "Tetleys"
- Everton Football Club are the best team. Liverpool are a bunch of red ******, Manchester United are arrogant **** and Chelsea are regularly rude about Zizou's mother.
Bon chance!

See below. Registration with the Consulate General (acting as the consular section of the French Embassy in London) is optional; but unless you do so you will not have access to certain benefits, including (if you have children) access to the French schools in the UK; passport and ID card renewal, etc. In effect, they do what the «Mairie» of your residence in France would do.
Here's the text of the Foreign Ministry circular:
Comment s’inscrire au registre des Français établis hors de France ?
Depuis le 1er janvier 2004, l’inscription au registre des Français établis hors de France remplace l’immatriculation consulaire (décret n° 2003-1377 du 31 décembre 2003).
1. Le rôle de l’inscription au registre des Français établis hors de France
L’inscription au registre des Français établis hors de France est une formalité administrative simple et gratuite qui présente de multiples avantages :
- faciliter l’accomplissement de formalités administratives et obtenir certains documents administratifs ( passeport, carte nationale d’identité, ...) ;
- accéder à certaines procédures ou à certaines prestations liées à la résidence à l’étranger ;
- recevoir des informations du poste consulaire.

Go to Knights bridge, to the French Embassy, ask for the Press and Information Office, they are very kind and helpful. Go for a walk in Hyde park, visit Harrods upscale across the road, visit the stables of the kings, walk to Buckingham Palace, listen to free classical music in a booth during lunch time or go bowling. You will live in a different world. I did
