It could be do to hormonal changes. But try these things, it just might work.
1. Go to a drugstore and pick up some acidophilis tablets and chlorophyll tablets. There's a possiblity that his bad breath may be do to an imbalance in normal flora in the gastrointestinal tract.
2. Make sure he's brushing, flossing, and using a tongue scraper. Some mouth washes containing alcohol can ironically CAUSE bad breath, because it dries out the mouth so much. Have him use a 50/50 mix of hydrogen peroxide and water as mouthwash BEFORE brushing the teeth. The peroxide debrides and cleans the mouth, sloughes off the dead cells and odor causing bacteria. Use this 50/50 mix only EVERY OTHER DAY. It's too strong to use daily.
3. Make sure he eats breakfast in the morning. Hunger can cause bad breath. Also make sure he eats right! Stay away from sugary food, and eat a balanced diet.
4. He can chew a few parsley sprigs periodically through the day. It is a natural breath sweetner. So is lemon. Tell him to drink plenty of water flavored with lemon. Dehydration is another factor that can cause halitosis.
5. I doubt if he is allowed to chew gum in school, but chewing orbit gum is good. I've found the orbit works good for me.
I hope this helps your son, all this could be so rough on his self-esteem. Kids can be so cruel at this age!

Does he brush his tongue...most bad breath comes from people not brushing their tongues....tell him to brush his teeth, then his tongue (this will probably make him gag a little and it may seem uncomfortable at first, but he will adjust and it just means he is doing it right), and then floss, and then rinse with mouthwash....buy a travel size mouthwash and put it in his bag and he can use the bathroom after lunch and rinse out well...use minty gum as well

When he brushes, does he brush his tongue? A lot of bacteria that cause bad breath are on the tongue. It can also be because of his diet. Does he have a bad tooth? As the saying goes, " you are what you eat." The food you eat can affect your breath. Good luck with this. Take care and God bless.

You should call the doctor or dentist about this. Tell them all the symptoms, and make an appointment if nessesary to go see one or the other. I heard that if you have a cavity, you may hav ebad breath also. Good luck!

Very good advice from others so far. I'd just add that he could bring a toothbrush and toothpaste to school and brush after lunch too. As a teacher, I know that a few students do brush after lunch!

Perhaps he needs to floss. Brushing isn't enough. Food, especially meat, stuck between the teeth has a strong rotting odor.

it might be his diet.. eat fruits and vegetables.. every now and again some baking soda with water..
everyone suffers from it.
maybe when he talks he exhales to strongly, he may consider talking with mouth a little less agape and even turning his head slightly.. no joke.
if it's that bad, then see a doctor... for the best advice.
