Something you should know about kittens is they are CRAZY for a while. When they first realize they can eat food, they will try to eat everything. A squirt-gun is a good training tool. What you can do is make sure to hiss at the cat (say PSSSST!) or something really loud every time they do something bad, and they'll associate that sound with reprimand. You won't even have to use the squirt gun before long, and can switch over to the hiss training completely. Works great. Good luck!

It's not mean at all! I know it might feel like it from time to time, but it's not hurting them. And they need to be trained. If you don't get kittie's food behavior under control now.....well, can you imagine an 8-12 pound cat trying to dive into your plate??? LMAO! That's a rather hilarious mental image. So yeah, go with the spray bottle or the jar full of pennies (for noise)....either one should work:)

If it is just plain water it shouldn't hurt him within reason - be sure it's immediate though. If you wait even a few secnds he won't associate the spray with his behaviour and you could make him neurotic.
But rather than train him not to pinch food (very difficult) it is much better to train him to stay off the table - because that is territory related and cats naturally understand territory concepts.

Squirt bottles are an excellent trainer for kittys.
I used one with my two when they were kittens. They use to always jump up on the counters and kitchen table when I was trying to eat. I would give them each one good spray and say NO and they would get down. Its worked wonders. They dont bother anyone when they are eating now!

we used the spray water bottle on our cat as a kitten and now all you have to do is show her the bottle and she'll stop doing whatever it is she's doing. Don't drench him, just squirt him a few times - water is not mean - it doesn't harm the cat.
Good luck!

properly i think of there truly cool critters. I certainly have heard they fee between 50 and eighty$ looking on the breed. they have ferret meals basically like canine, cat, or rabbit and so on. meals in bags and stuff on the biggest puppy shops like puppy-co. and that i'm specific lots of smaller puppy shops have something too. I stay in California have been ferrets are unlawful to possess and ferret meals and upload-ons are nonetheless in all of the puppy shops i've got been to. They do require a number of care, and that they are enormously stinky critters, a guy i recognize has one and provides his a bathtub just about accepted! (no longer asserting you will possibly desire to try this) You do might desire to have a particularly great cage for them because of the fact they run around and are extra lively then critters like rabbits, mice, hamsters etc. There are those ferret cages offered at puppy shops that have diverse levels yet are not extensive that look very solid. properly it truly is plenty i've got written so wish it helps take care

I find that a well placed stab in the paw with a fork does the trick. It will limp around and sulk for a few weeks but will not get up on the table again- I can tell you that.

Try anything. . . I dont think its mean. . .its like training your two year old, you have to disicpline/train your pets. They wont remember the method when they get older, only that they know better then to steal food. We used to have to lock our cat in the bathroom while we ate, we were never at peace.
