Things to consider are: that it is reasonably close, ie flight time not more than 6 hours or so; hotter the better, beach and luxury hotel is always a winner with her. Cash is not unlimited but shouldn't get in the way. Thinking April but maybe sooner and thinking of a long weekend.
Also any suggestions on romantic ways to propose will be well received.

Go to Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands - that's only 80km from the African coast but you can get really good deals. Once there, hire a car for a day or an afternoon; the weather should be very good there. Go towards the Tropical Park but drive right past it. Just past it you will go round a bend and the road will come to an end. This is called MIRADOR DEL GUINATE and it is nothing short of magnificent. When I went there, and rounded the corner, the view just took my breath away. It was like a vision of heaven - blue sky, blue ocean, green cliffs falling away to one side, and the Isla Graciosa down below (the view is very high up) - and the horizon shrouded in romantic mist (maybe go before midday!)

This should not break the bank and is within your flight time, as it only takes 5 hours to fly there, to Arrecife airport. It ticks all your boxes and I hope your girlfriend appreciates it and says yes. Personally I'd like my boyfriend to propose at the top of Ditchling Beacon in East Sussex, or up somewhere high in the Yorkshire Dales, or in the Lake District, but then I'm a cheap date!!

Good luck!

PS - PLEASE don't make it a public event - I think that's awful and a girl could feel the man's trying to manoeuvre her into a position where she "has to" say yes because of the "audience". Keep it private, I think.

Get a load of this place - It's very romantic and you get first class service all the way...butlers, the lot. Edinburgh is a fantastic city. You could find some where quiet in the Princes street Gardens which is at the foot of the castle - it's amazing!!

We stayed at The Howard's sister hotel but my brother recommended this place to a work colleague and he took his new girlfriend there - serious brownie points made! They were given drinks on arrival were the butlers took their bags up to the room, they asked for a recommendation for a seafood restaurant and wound up with a reservation and chaffeaur driven car. Top notch!! It costs about £450 pppn so it's not cheap but it's worth every penny!!!

Go for it - and well done for taking the time to plan it - Ok, so you've asked for some inspiration but I'm sure your girlfriend will appreciate the effort!!

Good Luck!

This is probably not what you are looking for but I will suggest it anyway. Take her to Jersey, rent a Mini Cooper from Europcar, stay at the L'Horizon Hotel (Busted stayed there and Louise Rednapp) which is right on St Brelades Bay, walk along the beach at sunset and stop at the Fisherman's Chapel. Drop on one knee under the arch and propose. It is supposed to be good luck for a long and happy marriage, and if you do it on a Saturday, chances are that the flowers will still be up from the weddings.

Paris or Amsterdam (by one of the canals)

Venice

York, it's a beautiful city, but can't guarantee it will be warm

Edinburgh, by the castle

Cornwall, go to Boscastle and stand on the cliffs right by the sea and the blow hole in the rocks

Claridges (what could be better than having dinner at Claridges, cooked by Gordon Ramsey)

The Planetarium, have them write your proposal in the stars for her.

Cape Town, but that's 13 hours flight I think

regrettably you're never far from the maddening crowds in Williamstown...esp in summer season! To be honest nonetheless, each and all the stunning 'outdoor' spots on the brink of Melbourne are unlikey to be skinny on the individuals element. There are some amazing spots below timber interior the Botanical Gardens that are much less properly properly-known. in case you time it around nightfall - an hour or so earlier they close - you have got an extremely moody and atmospheric placing - with the description of bats and the creaking of bugs. human beings are much less usual on the brink of shutting time too. or you ought to attempt a night safari picnic at Werribee Zoo. you additionally can stay in luxury tents - listening to the sound of the animals and watching sunset/daybreak. My fav sea coast is Wye River on great Ocean street - secluded, approximately an hour and a half from Melbourne and surrounded by utilising lush bush. additionally properly worth a theory. stable luck! Geneva is always lovely, mountains in the background. Or go to Lausanne along Lake Geneva. Arguably the best spa hotel is in Lausanne, very romantic. Or if you fancy somewhere warmer, try the Amalfi Coast in Italy. I've heard it's idyllic, however, one must have a car.

Well Rome is the city of love - so when I took my girlfriend there I proposed to her in front of the Trevelli (sorry I know that spelt wrong) fountain.... very romantic - and she said yes.

Just a shame I couldn't get rid of the thousand tourists - but if you can go out of tourist season or maybe early in the day before they all get there...

But Rome is full of beauitful romantic places.... so take your choice.
