Atheists seek the truth, nothing less, nothing more. If a god provided the tiniest shred of proof that he existed, the atheists would jump on it immediately.
Unfortunately, no such proof exists, and in fact, there is a tremendous amount of proof that gods do not exist, and are figments of early man's imagination.
Hard as it may be for some people to accept, this is the truth. And that's the difference between an atheist and a theist. Atheists don't just believe whatever makes us feel good. We believe what is most likely the truth. The sad thing for us, is that we are shunned by the majority of people, because we do maintain this higher standard.
It's not easy being an atheist in this society. And so many people don't understand that.

I am a Christian, I have been since I was 14, I'm now 45. In my first marriage I chose a man who was not a Christian, he was an alcoholic, abusive and a womanizer. I had a son with him and was trying to make my marriage work despite the obstacles stated above. Finally after 6 years I was a mess, we had nothing, no home, no money, we were broke and living with his grandmother, mother and younger sister and sleeping on a pullout bed in the living room. I believed that as a Christian I should make this marriage work, but it wasn't, I was having a nervous breakdown I could find no peace. But, through all of this I still loved my husband. One day I took a walk down by a creek and I started praying to God for strength to stay if he wanted me to or for him to take the Love I felt for my husband away so I could start a fresh life. Instantly the love I felt for my husband was gone, I still cared for him, but the love that you feel for your Spouse had diminished. God had given me my answer. I then was able to walk away knowing I was doing the right thing. That was 1985 and 21 years later I still know it was the right thing and have no regrets and I know it was an answer from God. Now, some of you or perhaps all of you will think I am full of it, and thats your choice, but I know what happened that day by the creek and I know how I feel today. God answers prayers, you have to be willing to listen and obey, God does know best. God Bless!!

I don't see how you can reject proof. I mean, you may be able to explain it away somehow, but if it was convincing enough, how could you really ignore it?
Atheists don't see evidence for God and reject it. They see no evidence for believing. If they did see evidence, that would change the whole ballgame.
Why on earth would people think atheists would reject a clear sign from God out of hand? Atheists are not AGAINST God. They simply feel he is not real.
[Note: Some atheists ARE very much against the idea of thinking God is real. They do not, however, wage some kind of fight against God. That would require believing God exists. That is a whole other religion.]

I would seek mental heath help, as I was obviously having an hallucination.
I fail to see how a "vision" and hearing voices are signs of god.
Many people believe they have seen UFOs maybe these are also a sign from god?
Having a vision is not proof. Proof is evidence that can be examined by more than one person. It can be tested again and again.
A fleeting vision of a bush of fire is hardly a basis for believing in a higher power, there are many other explanations for such a phenomena.

Your question sounds like a result of mental illness to me. Consider the following. Religious believers suffer from a common mental illness.
If we assume the universe was created, then it’s reasonable to assume there was a creator. That’s as far as science has progressed today, but just look how far religion has progressed.
Religion states (fact) there was a creator called God, that God still exists, God also created places called Heaven & Hell, God wrote an instruction book called the Bible, God will banish evil people to Hell, God will send good people who follow the Bible to heaven, that people referred to in the Bible (like Jesus) will return to Earth, and a whole raft of other statements of fact. That’s right, religious fact, not assumptions.
Now tell me truthfully, if science doesn’t even know yet whether the universe was created or not, but religious believers state: “not only was the universe created by God, here’s a whole lot more proof and facts to go with it, what do you think?
Either religious believers just have vivid imaginations or suffer from a common mental illness. I think commonsense and logic would suggest that religious believers are mentally handicapped.
Religious believers have many signs as a result of their illness, some are Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, God, Grim Reaper etc etc. In such a fantasy world, it's nice to play games with signs, that's what all religious people hope for.

beloved of GOD, they have been given many unmistakable signs, and yet do not believe. they claim they would believe but not worship or would believe if there was scientific evidence, when belief is worship and there are so many scientific pieces of evidence that point to an Intelligent Designer it is astounding, but yet they cling to unbelief. belief in HIM requires faith which we know is not believing merely what is seen, yet HE said in HIS word in Romans ch.1 it (His existence) is plain to all (exhibited throughout creation) so that NO MAN should have an excuse when they stand before HIM. Rejection of GOD is an attitude of the heart and not merely the head. LOVE is the only way to counteract it. If we as believers exhibit the attributes and character of GOD through forgiveness without judgement, unconditional acceptance, and meeting their needs they will "see" GOD and believe. This is how Jesus walked and taught. Signs and wonders followed but even He said that an adulterous generation had signs and would not believe. Be encouraged athiests change all the time. we'd see it more if we would stop debating them so much and love 'em.

If it was unmistakable, I would have to believe it. However, "unmistakable" may be impossible, given people's strong views on either side. There are doubters who will deny everything, claiming it was in their mind, coincidence, or a hoax, etc. There are also those on the other side, who can point to anything positive and claim it is an act of God, but defend negative events by saying, "God has a plan" or "God works in mysterious ways."

Agreed. I believe what I have evidence for. If I am given evidence of the existence of God (NOT some old books or some mad guy who says God spoke to him or cured his Aunty Mabel, but actual proof) then I would have to say I had made a big mistake, and accept the existence of God.
It would take an awful lot more evidence for me to believe that any of the other incredible contradictory claims of the various organised religions are true, however.

a million. If God exists contained in the great way maximum monotheistic religions imagines Him to exist -- an all-functional, all-understanding being -- why would such an entity comply with regulate to a human commonplace of evidence? 2. As in accordance to present day human understanding of truth, the existence of God is a controversy of man or woman faith. there is not any objectively provable answer as we talk. 3. those who trust God exists say certain there are sparkling indications; those who do not say no. the answer to this question is heavily depending on the assumptions one places in position earlier to comparing the available anecdotal evidence. 4. See #a million. 5. In a way resembling a pair religious human beings as regards technology, i'm particular there will be some irreligious those who would steadfastly refuse to trust even with if God, Himself, confirmed up at their the front door. 6. i do not trust there is any censorship of evidence. evidence or lack thereof is there for the asking. The lens of interpretation is what differs. a facet be conscious the following concerning smart layout, because you presented it up. As a religious individual, i position self belief in smart layout, after a way. even with the undeniable fact that, I surely do not help its inclusion in technology preparation curricula because it. Is. not. technology. era. If a school desires to prepare it in a philosophy or social analyze classification, this is fantastic. the region with identity is that it *begins* with a end - that there's a supernatural author - and works its earlier to the hypothesis, selectively choosing evidence to help the foregone end. it really is singularly undesirable technology. 7. In my own opinion, certain i imagine there are motives God keeps the evidence inconclusive. In maximum monotheistic religious traditions, there's a severe element of esteem placed on faith contained in the unprovable. If all of it turns into black and white, no faith mandatory, then a large portion of properly-known spirituality collapses.
