Why get so het up about it all, it seems that in being on this board at all, you must be at least a bit interested.
I have defended your stance many times on these boards, against the born again Christians and respect your belief, for you are entitled to it, yet this has puzzled me for awhile now.

I think maybe atheism is as much of a religion as anything else - a set of beliefs. I personally find religious discourse interesting (whilst being an athesit) but couldn't possibly condone the disparaging remarks some say against other's beliefs. I personally don't believe in a higher presence, you do. Absolutely fine. Let's go for a pint... :)

Help where needed. Shine a light when you can.

Religion and Spirituality is just as much about the lack of as it is about beliefs. It can easily be said that Christians have some interest in atheism and Buddhism and Jainism, etc. if they come to these forums. And that is true. That's the point of the forum.

If you think you have the answers, wouldn't you try to give them? I've never understood why people can't understand why atheists would come to these forums. Se la vie.

Because a) religion doesn't necessarily imply theology; b) spirituality; c) we need a good laugh now and then; d) having spent a good amount of time examining what we now shun, we know a lot about theology/religion, and are well qualified to answer the questions.

And I almost forgot e) nowhere in Religion & Spirituality is it implied that this category is only for christians or theists.

I don't go to this category, I go to the home page and click whatever interests me.

There have been many questions posted in this category that are specifically addressed to atheists, and I often answer them, when I happen to see them and they strike my fancy.

Other times I chime in on questions not specifically addressed to atheists because I like to chime in on things.

Most people have major misconceptions about atheists, and I like to explain what it is that I am, and correct mistaken notions in the hope that the religious will gain a better understanding of what we are and are not.

Others probably come here looking for a fight.

The vast majority are religious, and many religious people want to try to force everyone to believe as they do. We get sick of it. Some people like to strike back.

I lately realized the best response is to encourage them to pray to their god for my salvation -- this would keep them busy and out of my face.

I would like to know the answer too.

If you believe there is no God, and you have no ambition to change your belief, then why have discussions on religion and spirituality?

Now, if you are really wanting to understand those who do, or defending your belief system then it is good to have you.

And to one of the other answers - I agree with your point - Athiesm is a form of religion - because you have beliefs

Simply - I go on it to get a good bloody laugh, as the people who ask the questions are so zealous, they get so heated and nobody is interested. Because, there are no answers. You could bleat on and on all day and you will never get people to agree with you on such a big subject. I certainly am not an aethiest, I believe some things are too personal and why do these people expect us to agree with them - they should calm down. Live and let live O.K.

Alot of Aethiests are just trying to understand why people feel the need for religion. Also, a good of them had faith- at one point. Then, for somereason or another, they stoped believeing. Most are unsure why, so they go places where they can get a reminder of what having religion was like- and try to awnser their question.

That is a great question! I like to believe that the Holy Spirit is putting a burden on them to repent and come to the Lord. Sadly, it is probably only the Devil trying to bash our beliefs and using the poor unsuspecting lost souls to do it. They are such fools and they don't even know it! let's pray for them and maybe they will see the light before it's too late. God bless!

Because some of them are intolerant of any opinion or belief that differs from their own -- so they come on here seeking to change people's minds.

Some of them have a strange way of doing it, though. They want us to swing over to their way of thinking -- but they think they can effect this change by calling us names such as "ignorant," "fools," "gullible," and so on.

That's not exactly good persuasion tactic, there. If they're trying to win people over, antagonizing them with such name-calling is no way to do it.
