why? why would you go to the desert?? go to the ocean...you won't explode their!

I don't know about exploding, but the aspartame in diet Coke might cause some other unpleasantries, like:
Aspartame scrambles the brain causing memory loss, confusion and inability to concentrate. It is a molecule composed of three components, aspartic acid, an excitotoxin (product that stimulates the neurons of the brain to death causing brain damage of varying degrees), methanol, a severe metabolic poison that converts to formaldehyde and formic acid and causes metabolic acidosis, and phenylalanine, at 50% and an isolate is neurotoxic lowering the seizure threshold of the brain and depleting serotonin which triggers manic depression, mood swings, panic attacks and suicidal tendencies for starters. Aspartame breaks down to a witches brew of toxins including diketopiperazine, a brain tumor agent.

I lived in the desert for 2½ years, and am mildly addicted to Diet Coke, and I've never exploded.

If so.. I would have exploded many times. I have had coke(I only drink diet coke) when I was in the Sahara desert many times and I have not exploded yet.. physically impossible you know.

I never exploded drinking a diet coke in the desert.... I drank many of them in the Mojave desert.
