Frequent washing. It is said that cats dont like water but if you bathe them regularly they get used it it. Make sure to brush them as well so that the hair does not fly around. Get a brush where the hair will stick to it insitead of fly off. Also, i would recommend a simamese breed, they have less dander than other cats. My husband and borther in law are allergic and we both have siamese....doesnt seem to be as bad.
On a funny note, i used a lint rolled on my siamese the other day. She loved it and it got a lot of hair too.
Good luck

I have mild allergies to my cats dander. You might want to consider confining the cat to certain rooms that your mother and brother don't frequent. In addition vacuum any area your cat spends a fair amount of time, this includes her bed. Try to vacuum daily or every other day. Also brush your cat thoroughly every day without fail. My cats do not like water, so I bought an allergy reducer at my local pet supply store. Once a week I wet a cloth with the allergy reducer and rub it all over my cats until there fur is pretty damp. Then I rub a dry clean cloth until they feel dry. It seems to have helped quite a bit. Don't forget to use a lint brush on your own clothing. I carry cat hair everywhere I go.
Cat dander is dried saliva left over from the cat grooming herself, you cannot totally get rid of it.

There are many pet wipes, sprays, shampoos, and powders that are supposed to reduce dander and help with allergies. Try PetSmart, PetCo, Pet Supples Plus, or Soldan's, if there are any in your area. A local vet might also be able to help you out on where to find it and the best thing to use.
Also, regular bathing helps. I was having slight allergic reactions to our first cat, and I found that regular bathing (every 2-4 weeks) helped with it. I just bought a waterless cat shampoo that's supposed to help reduce dander, as well. Simply because I don't know how the new kitty will react to water, lol.
Good luck!

nature's merical has a spray that you can put on your cat to reduce dander. make sure YOU brush the cat at the absolute least once a week in a place that your mom and brother don't go and you vaccuum a couple of times a week using arm and hammer powder stuff to put down before vaccuuming use the stuff that says pet hair release and also get the allergen reducer and go back and forth with that. get the pet hair magnet (it looks like a squeegee) I think petmate makes it and that will get hair off the FURnature. also get an air purifier. make at least one room in your house cat free, never alow the cat in that room and your mom and brother can have a place to go that they won't have to worry about the cat.
It's a lot of extra work to do, but if you are up for it and your mom and brother are ok with it go for it.

my husband is allergic and I have 5 cats and my vet told me that the best way to keep the dander under control is to brush them daily. Bathing helps also, but brushing works best. Also you might ask your family to get on Claritin to help ease their symptoms. Good Luck!

You don't. Cat dander occurs when they lick themselves...it forms from their saliva. Unless you get a cat that doesn't lick itself (which you WON'T) then you can't get a cat...unless your mom and brother want to go get allergy shots.
My mom is highly allergic to cats. I've come to the realization that I have to wait until I move out to get one.

One way to DEFINITELY control dander of ANY kind is through diet. YES DIET!!!! Dander is nothing more than dry skin. Proper diet is the only sure way to control any issues involving pet dander.
