I have an old female cat. She is very tolerant. I found the perfect cat but she is already 3 years old. My old cat can come and go as she pleases but this cat would be totally indoors. Do you think they could get along?

Yes they may need a little adjusting. I'd also keep the other cat indoors. She will get use to being inside after awhile.

Had a cat that live totally outside for 10 years. He adjusted very well to staying inside.

Is the new cat male or female and is it neutered. I have a friend with an older female neutered cat. She is 16 and can't get around very well anymore. My friend decided to bring in a younger neutered cat and after 2 years they still don't get along. She keeps the older cat upstairs and the younger cat downstairs. Sometimes it is hard for a solitary cat to accept new animals in the house. You never know for sure until you give it a try. For assistance on this you might want to try www.drsfostersmith.com. They have a lot of great information on all kinds of animals.

I don't see why it would be a problem. I've heard that sometimes females don't get along too well, but the majority of things I've heard and see suggest that they'll at least tolerate each other.

I just adopted a 3 year old girl last week......kudos to you for wanting to adopt an older one! They have less of a chance of finding a good home the older they get.

I also suggest keeping your current cat indoors from now on. It's really not too hard of a transition for them, and really much safer in the long run. Our male was a stray, so he kept on wanting to go out when we first got him. But he adjusted well. He does go outside with us from time to time, but he sticks right around the patio and then we take him in (he loves eating grass, but won't eat the stuff you grow yourself).

If you don't want to keep your current cat inside, keeping one in and letting one out wouldn't be too big of a problem in the cat's minds. BUT keep in mind that your outdoor cat is constantly being exposed to dangers (diseases and parasites) outside that she could drag in to the indoor cat.

yes if the new cat is a female. I have 3 cats and one of them likes the inside and stays inside most of the time and gets along with the other cats

Maybe, but why is it you're keeping the new one totally indoors? The outdoor kitty will bring anything it is exposed to inside to the new kitty. Also, being an outdoor kitty, I'm told, will keep the older one more territorial and aggressive with other animals. I hope they get along.

It might be hard for a few days until they establish territorial issues, but yes, they will get along. Contrary to popular belief, cats do not like to be solitary animals, they enjoy company of their species.

Well, some cats don't get along because they get jelous because they pick favorite. Try putting them in differnt place or rooms and when you see them play under the door let them go.
