Finding an answer to what exactly psoriasis is will be difficult to say the least. Psoriasis has many variables and types. Basically, it is an auto-immune disorder that can be treated but not cured. I have had it since I was seven. Two of my children have it. It is really difficult to control if you are under stress. Exercise to lose extra weight, if needed. Be sure to use lotions that do not have perfumes in them. Also, aloe vera and lanolin irritate mine. Sun, either naturally or from a tanning bed, is great. Just be very cautious not to burn. If the psoriasis is on the scalp, try t-gel shampoo first. If that does not help, ask your pharmacist about over the counter zinc or salicylic shampoos. Don't buy the pricey ones that are kept behind the counter though, they tend to be no better than the less expensive ones. A tip: use the shampoo as a body wash too. I even use denorex as a pre-treatment 10 minutes before I get into the shower. Try not to let your boyfriend get stressed, sick or even scratched. They could all make it worse. Knowing that you are accepted when you have this horrible condition is half the battle. Good luck to the both of you.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.

I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.

And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.

And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

Psoriasis Revolution?

contrary to what people think, psoriasis is NOT contagious. So it's impossible for someone to get it from tattoos, needles, etc.

There are literally dozens of treatments for psoriasis. The basic points of the condition are skin cells develop much too rapidly, therefore causing that flakiness. The tanning bed suggestion is a good one if he doesn't want to go to the doctor's. But, there are many different options that will almost guarantee that the psoriasis will go away if he does see a dermatologist. They range from creams to heat therapy, and new cures being developed every day.

I used to have psoriasis and was embarrassed by it. I took all types of creams, and it did in fact disappear AFTER I stopped taking the creams. So there is hope. Good luck!

Cure psoriasis starting today - even if your doctor or dermatologist says "it's impossible!"
I've just followed a guide called psoriasis free for life that completely cured me of this debilitating and embarrassing disease in less than a month!
Remember, this will not only treat the symptoms that you do see:
the red, inflamed itchy skin.
The silvery scales that seem to erupt for no reason.
The burning or bleeding that occurs around your joints.
The cracking, oozing and painful patches on your skin.
But it also treats the underlying cause of psoriasis - the part you don't see - the actual immune system deficiency that causes these itchy patches to appear and scale over.

You can definitely get back your life, your confidence and your self esteem!

Psoriasis is thought to be a reaction within the body (possibly to stress or other factors but no one is really sure) which causes the condition. Stress can make it worse and some people seem to suffer from it more at certain times of the year. It is NOT contagious. Anyway, your boyfriend really should go to a good dermatologist (he may hate going to doctors, but you can tell him that NO ONE like it, and eventually he will have to go), and get a prescription cream, etc. Over the counter meds are ok (shampoos such as Nutrogena T-Get and things like cortisone cream), but if he has it really bad then these products may be of little value in the long run. He really should see a doctor but if he refuses then tell him fine, suffer with it.

Psoriasis is a common chronic skin condition characterized by roundish red patches covered with thick, dry silvery/grayish scales. The scales are a result of excessive dvelopment of skin cells (epithelial cells). Psoriasis tends to worsen then abate and can be worsened by stress and perspiration. It is hereditary. The patches (lesions) may be anywhere on the body but are more common on extensor surfaces (fingers, toes), bony areas, scalp, ears, genitalia and the perianal area. Treatment includes topical and intralesional corticosteroids, UV light, tar solutions, creams and shampoos, methotrexate, retinoids, topical vitamin D, cyclosporine and photochemotherapy. The tar shampoo, cream and solution he may find at the market or drug store and can be purhcased OTC. If he's serious about controlling it (there is no cure), then he will have to bite the bullet and see a Dermatologist.

They actually have a whole website dedicated to Psoriasis that could probably answer your questions. It is http://www.psoriasis.org. Go to the tab at the top of the website called " About Psoriasis" and then to FAQ it is really informative.
