I have always bought Columbia snowsuits for my son. We live in Nebraska and the wind makes it very cold in the winter. I really like Columbia because of the techtonite they are sooo light-weight. Like a jacket weight but it keeps him very warm. My problem with them is that they zip from leg cuff to leg cuff and I have a terrible time keeping them zipped. I use a safety pin, but that is such a pain. I'm looking for a lightweight snowsuit that maybe has built-in gaitors or maybe just some gaitors to go over a snowsuit, but I really want it to be lightweight. He is 5 and average size. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We've had a little better luck with LLBean than with Columbia (our son is 6).

A full suit is nice for sledding - nothing gets up their back or down their bibs. But bibs and a jacket is easier for them to put on by themselves and they last longer because you can adjust the length with the bibs suspenders.

I like wind-blocker fleece gloves because they are thin enough to put on first and then pull the jacket/coveralls on over them giving a tight seal. Putting on any other kind of gloves on over everything seems to collect a lot of snow inside (they're fine for cold wind, just not snow play).
