I am not sure what perio surgery you got. Here are some postoperative protocols to MAJOR periodontal surgery (not scaling and root planning)

1. Take antibiotic and analgesic prescribed by your peridontist to reduce bacterial populations (ie Tetracycline)
2. Care must be taken not to over-compress the wound site since periodontal packing may be applied to it.
3. Ask your peridontist, you should rinse with chlorhexidine gluconate twice daily for four weeks following surgery.
4. Depends on type of your surgery, you should refrain from brushing the treated area for two weeks following surgery. After this period, you may be instructed to gently brush the area with a soft toothbrush.

One thing I can tell you NOT to do....do NOT start spitting out the blood clots, like I did when I was a kid.....woke up from a nap one afternoon in a pool of blood that soaked clear through the pillow and into the mattress!
