I've read the other responses and while some sound good they are impractical. Unless your cat likes baths be in for one heck of a fight! Be prepared to get bitten and scratched. I wouldn't use a poison like Pine-sol on any animal. Also, if you do decide to bathe the cat make sure you don't get the soap in his eyes as it may blind him, especially if you don't get it out. Rinse him thoroughly too. That stuff wasn't designed for shampoo on animals and ingesting it could be serious for your kitty.
Advantage works the best. It kills the fleas in 12 hours that are on your cat and keeps killing any leftover fleas for 30 days.
Also you will want to spray your house with Raid flea spray. It works the best. Kills fleas and hatching larvae. You will need to spray once a day for a week or so. Leave it on your carpet for at least 10 hours before vacuuming them, otherwise you will suck up the spray and the fleas will thank you.
If you try the home remedy route you will still have fleas and will spend more on the home remedies than you would by just going out and buying the correct products that are made just for this purpose.

A cupful of pinesole in a gallon of water works great on my kitties.
Advantage is also a great product.
Kills 99% Of Fleas Within 12 Hours Of Application. Reinfesting Fleas Are Killed Within Two Hours. The Fleas Are Killed Before They Have A Chance To Lay Eggs. This Breaks The Flea Life Cycle. Topical 4 Month Supply.
To Ensure Proper Flea Control And Minimize Risk Of Infestation I Recommend Continuous Year-round Treatment; Even In Winter Months. You will have a happy kitty.

Did a web search and couldn't find any home remedies. I've never heard of any either-- I was always told to get shampoo and a collar.
As far as the dishwashing liquid- I would go for something made for cats that won't hurt the eyes. I'd trust Hartz over Dawn anyday!
Have a great day!!!

Frontline. Don't mess with some home concoction. Go to the vet and get the good stuff. You'll piss away more money trying stuff then you will paying $10.00 for the Frontline.
Get some Ace flea and ant spray as well, and spray your carpets and yard.

My sister had a flea problem with her dog and a vet tech told her over the phone that lemon dish soap works wonders and kills fleas on contact.

get a flea shampoo and put your cat in a tub full - then get some frontline and put it on the cat for future use. Make sure you spray your rugs and stuff at home to kill all eggs too.

Some vets sell Frontline in single vials. I use that on my cat because I cannot afford $45 dollars on three all at once. If you need a home remedy I would research it.

I used to work at a grooming salon a while back and we would always use Joy dish soap on any animal that had fleas and we had good luck with it. Don't use any sprays or powders that you can get at the stores...the animals can lick at them and get very sick. Hope this helps you and your cat out!

Yes, dishwashing soap kills most fleas and ticks. Wash your cat throughly. If he/she is still a kitten, grab him/her by the skin on back of his neck. It'll make the kitten freeze while you bathe it. Dont worry, it doesn't hurt the kitty. After bathing, get advantage, and it'll kill the remainder of the fleas.Good Luck
