NO!!!!
I'm very sad that so much time, money & energy is being put to rebuild a city that never should have had that location in the 1st place. The guy who founded it had engineers w/ him who advised against that location.... he ignored them! So, now we see the result.
It's just a bad spot for a city, it'll get blown away again & we'll pay to rebuild... again. It shoudl be moved a few miles north, to stable ground.
W/ Global Warming, sea level is projected to rise 5-15 feet. There are parts of N.O. that have sank 10 ft & are still sinking. That puts those areas up to 25 ft below sea level, I guess even the ocean is prejudice against Jessie Jackson!
It just doesn't make sense to rebuild a city in a place that was bad to begin w/!!!!!

How about we just draw a line a mile inland across the entire gulf coast from Texas to the tip of Florida, and also along the entire Atlantic coast. Tell anyone who lives there or decides to live there that from now on they're on their own. No money for any services including roads, schools or any public assistance of any kind. Since these areas are all prone to hurricanes they will probably be hit eventually anyway so why waste money on them now. Then once the hurricane does hit, we'll just leave the mess there and tell all the folks who were affected that we told you so and good luck on your own. While we're at it, let's do the same thing to California since eventually it'll be hit by a major earthquake and may separate from the mainland to become an island. I guess also while we're on a roll, why waste time and money on states like Kansas and Iowa that have entire cites being flattened by tornadoes? And I suppose we could scratch off those areas in the west that deal with annual wildfires.
Gimme a break. New Orleans is a major American city with real history, real culture, and real families. Not to mention the oil refineries or the fact that one of the country's biggest ports is located there. Will every single home be rebuilt? No. Will some neighborhoods disappear? Probably. But New Orleans is vital to both our nation's culture & economy and is going to be rebuilt.

Most definitely!! I think of it like this if your area was wiped out and I mean the state next to you also wouldn't you want to rebuild your life?? There are people that only know New Orleans and there are generations and generations that have been there. Then in other words if people feel it should not be rebuilt then if massive earthquakes happen in California then the city's should not be rebuilt basically anything prone for disaster should not be rebuilt. I feel that is wrong it is up to those who are there and not anyone else. I think that after all the devastation there are those who are trying to rebuild and go on. That says a lot.

Yes, New Orleans is too important as a port city not to rebuild. Some areas, however, should not be rebuilt. The benefits and risks aren't worth the costs involved. Besides, from what I've learned, the majority of the populations in certain areas weren't contributing anything to the city as a whole anyway. We need enough residential housing to support the tourist and service industries and that's it. The welfare underclass needed to go.

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Someone is going to come out in the next year and thank Katrina for doing their urban renewal. They will offer property owners in the impoverished areas a price for their property because some will never have the funds to rebuild and in their place the chrome and glass skyscrapers will start to go up. Casinos, Hotels, Office Complexes. Corporate Headquarters. Families will be displaced to Texas and Mississippi and wherever else. ( I have talked to some here in Ohio), and become someone elses problem.

Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast really need more help,
not just money but time. I live on the MS gulf coast and I am proud to say I have met wonderful people over the last year who have just donated their time and effort hanging drywall, insulation, cooking, working with our children so the parents could work on their homes, I will never forget these wonderful people or churches. The government keeps handing out money but it's going to the wrong people. Money does not help fix everything especially if you can't find an honest contractor. So please don't give up on us down here. We still need lots of help and volunteers.

No - as long as the money is going nowhere.
New Orleans could become a smaller version of itself and grow by annexation as people rebuild on their own accord.

Some of these people have got to be ***** joking right ?
are you pplz serious ?? NEW ORLEANS IS ONE OF THE OLDEST CITIES IN THE US... IT HAS MORE CULTURE then the rest of the US Put together.. its has its OWN history.. music.. traditions ..its own language.. architure .. food.. festivals ... It has what NO OTHER CITY in the US Has..
like anne rice said :
"To my country I want to say this: During this crisis you failed us. You looked down on us; you dismissed our victims; you dismissed us."
"You want our Jazz Fest, you want our Mardi Gras, you want our cooking and our music. Then when you saw us in real trouble, when you saw a tiny minority preying on the weak among us, you called us 'Sin City,' and turned your backs."
I am ashamed for you who dont support new orleans..
for the 1st time.. I AM ASHAMED TO BE CALLED AN AMERICAN

Yes we should. Although I don't live there I believe that home is home. A lot of people were born and raised there and it has always been their home.
I don't believe that we have a right to tell them that we are not going to rebuild or let them return to the only place they know.
I would want my home town rebuilt if it was destroyed.
